The Lahaina Menehune Boys/Westside Hoops Basketball team has been invited to participate in a summer exchange program with the Reno Ballers AAU Basketball Club in Reno, Nevada this June. The boys will receive top level coaching from current and former collegiate coaches, current and former NBA players and will be exposed to a level of competition not available in our state of Hawaii. In the past this exchange program has only been available to the Lahainaluna High School Boys Basketball team. Because of the their hard work and commitment to become better students, citizens and basketball players, the opportunity has been extended to the younger boys, thus providing them an opportunity to furthur their basketball training as well as creating an environment that will help them to grow into independent, responsible young men.
Back in August, Joaquin tried out as a 6th grader and made the team. He has been playing and training with them ever since. Along with Joaquin, 5 other 6th graders made the team, something that had never been done before this year. This group of kids have made a commitment to each other and have the community excited about the future of Lahainaluna High School Basketball. Joaquin has discovered a passion for the game and is making lifelong friends and relationships not only with his team, but with all the players and coaches involved with the West Side Hoops, a nonprofit organization designed to provide kids with an opportunity to play basketball year round, as well as to develop relationships with players and coaches on the mainland with the same interests and goals. The funds we raise will help with travel, food and accomodations for Joaquin's trip to Reno, as well as for other tournaments and traveling the team plans on in the near future.
All funds raised before May 1st will be matched by a local organization!
Thank you for all your support!!
