Sonia’s love of life and positive attitude are eternally inspiring. Along with the emotional support of family members and her many friends, they have seen her through 4 bouts with cancer. Now a fifth battle is looming and this time Sonia is going to need a little extra help. This time the cancer is inoperable and the treatment she is pursuing will not be covered by insurance.
A little background
In 2007, Sonia underwent her second lumpectomy which was followed by weeks of radiation therapy. Afterwards all seemed well, and for the next two years it was. She was able to work and to continue the ballroom dancing that brings so much joy to her and to others that she introduces it to.
But in 2009, she received another devastating blow. After a series of tests, ovarian cancer was confirmed. Once again Sonia was admitted to the hospital, this time for a complete hysterectomy. Months of chemotherapy and the related hair loss almost brought her to despair. But she was grateful for all the healing prayers coming her way and in true fashion, she not only bounced back physically but made a positive experience of shopping for wigs taking herself from being a brunette to a blond. Life was good again and she truly thought the cancer was behind her.
In February she found a small lump in her right breast. Radiation was not an option this time, and she ended up having a painful double mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery. This amazing woman rallied from this as well.
So it is heartbreaking, less than a year later, to find that breast cancer cells have metastasized to her left lung. It is a small mass, but it cannot be surgically removed.
Sonia has a wonderful integrative doctor. He has other patients with cancer who are doing very well with the alternative treatments he provides. These treatments are expensive and must be paid out of pocket.
Sonia lives on social security. If she’s going to continue these potentially life-saving treatments, she’s going to need to rely on donations.
We are hoping to raise funds for her so she can afford to receive the needed treatments over the next six months. A CT scan will then allow doctors to determine how well the treatments are working. We will use this site to keep everyone updated.
Sonia is fortunate to have many friends to support her emotionally during her journey to becoming healthy. We thank you for your love and kindness. Your donations, no matter how big or small, are much appreciated so she can complete the alternative medical treatments and find a way to beat cancer in a holistic, healthy manner.
We ask that you also consider sharing this “YouCaring” site with others you may know that could possibly help. It takes a village. We are so grateful for you, for your prayers and any and all help. God bless you.
