The Story

After nearly four years of supporting Solidarity of Nations - Achvat Amim, Masa Israel has pulled its support for the program under its current leadership. Masa’s decision comes on the heels of the release of an inaccurate and misleading investigative report on the program and its directors conducted by the extreme right wing organization Ad Kan.

Now we need your help.

Achvat Amim directly engages with the reality of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through human rights work and critical education, based on the core value of self-determination for all peoples. If you believe that this is an essential challenge for the next generation in our Jewish communities, we need your support to cover the scholarships that our current and next cohort of participants are now unable to access through Masa.

What's Achvat Amim?

Achvat Amim is a 5 month volunteer program in which participants are involved in hands on work with educational, community, and human rights organizations, doing grassroots work with Israelis and Palestinians in and around Jerusalem. Participants volunteer in group projects and in individualized placements, while traveling extensively, and learning with leaders in the field. Together, we build a dynamic learning community in which we explore and shape Jewish culture and identity as individuals and as part of a greater whole. Participants learn Hebrew and Arabic in a creative framework, and have diverse opportunities for religious and spiritual learning and practice as part of our Ruchani track.

What Happened?

In the report, which was repeated in several Israeli media sources, Ad Kan attempts to paint Achvat Amim as beyond the bounds of legitimate engagement and opinion on Israel and the conflict by presenting false assertions and disinformation about the program’s activities. This report is apparently an attempt to push the Ad Kan agenda, which it would appear seeks to delegitimize any criticism of the occupation and preclude Jews from around the world from making meaningful contributions to creating a more peaceful and just society.

What's Next?

We know you understand how significant this work is for the Jewish people and for Israelis and Palestinians. Our fall cohort is already underway, and we look forward to welcoming the next amazing cohort in the spring. These funds will cover the scholarships that our participants are now unable to access through Masa. We are confident that if we have your support we will be able to move forward without letting this attack harm this important framework we are actively building.

We have now received generous donations for a matching fund to cover the rest of the campaign. Your donations for the rest of the campaign will be doubled. Please share with your communities!

Dear Community,

We have made it past $18,000. L'Chaim!

As we move out of the holidays, fully into this new year, we are honoured that you are with us supporting the work and upholding our shared values.

This is the last week of the crowdfunding campaign, and we hope that you will all take a moment to share with your communities (once more, for those who certainly have already) and remind them that all donations from now until the end of the campaign will be matched thanks to the generosity of a wonderful group of people.

With deep respect and appreciation,

Karen, Daniel, and the Achvat Amim Team

Dear Community,

We  are now more than halfway to our goal! We have made it to over $15,000  and we are incredibly grateful to all of you. This generosity and  support from our community and from the expanding circles of communities  supporting this work is deeply inspiring.

As  we celebrate the festival of Sukkot which connects us to ideas of home,  community, and honoring guests, we will be celebrating all of you as  honoured guests who are a part of the home the Achvat Amim group is  building in Jerusalem, connected to wider communities working towards  peace and justice. We would not be able to continue this work without  you and we are truly grateful for your support.

We are pleased to announce that we have received donations towards a  matching fund for the rest of the campaign. Any donation you make from now until  the end of the campaign will be doubled. Thanks to these generous  donations we are even closer to reaching our goal.

Please  continue to share the campaign, the story, and your own thoughts with  your communities. With deep thanks and appreciation,

Karen, Daniel, and the Achvat Amim Team

Dear Community,

We are now more than a third of the way towards our goal! Today we have made it to over $10,000 and we are incredibly grateful and overwhelmed at the generosity and support of the wonderful circles of people we know, respect, and appreciate, and those of you who we don't (yet) know personally.

Please continue to share the campaign and the story and your own thoughts with your communities and networks.

As we move towards Yom Kippur we wish those of you who mark this day Gmar Chatima Tova, and we wish all of you a moment of deep reflection, appreciation, and intention, wherever you may find yourself this season.

With deep thanks,

Karen, Daniel, and the Achvat Amim Team
