On July 11th, two birds were brought to the Tacoma Humane Society by the City of Tacoma Animal Control. They spent nearly a month there without being adopted so we pulled them on August 4th, 2017, and brought them to sanctuary. We quickly surmised that they had been used for cockfighting. They were missing waddles, earlobes, and their spurs had been hacked off and their feathers were in terrible shape. These poor guys have been through a lot, and deserve the best life has to offer. When we first brought them home, the immediately went to dust bathing, something they quite possibly had never done. They do not know how to roost and one had a pressure sore on his chest, probably from spending so much time in a crate or box.
We have been in touch with the Animal Control officer who brought them in and learned that they were left without food, water or shade in the back of a truck full of trash that was destined for the dump. That's all humans considered them to be.
We could tell when they first came to Sky's the Limit, that their spirits were broken. Now with daily interaction, quality food, sunlight, dirt to bathe in and stumps and logs to play on, they are coming around and eat raisins from our hands.
Now it's time to build them a permanent coop! We are looking to raise funds for plywood, roofing material, insulation, vents and hardware. They are Thai roosters that they don't have the down feathers that other birds do, so they need a warm coop for the coming winter. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated, and all donations are tax deductible! No amount is too small! Thank you so much for helping us give these boys an amazing new home!
