Scout, the poor dog that was perilously howling in the pouring rain is now safe and relaxing in his foster home.
It was the distress of his howl that haunts the thoughts of Katie, his rescuer. His body completely submerged in the water up to his neck. He struggled to escape to higher ground but being chained by his owners before they evacuated proved to be a fatal sentence.

The owners did return when we were there but only to retrieve household items. It infuriated those watching as the dog reacted fearfully to the owners as they unchained him. They had no concern or compassion for the dog. They agreed to surrender the dog to us.

Scout is an angel of a dog and so relieved to be out of his frightful situation. After he is fully vetted and well, Scout will be available for adoption.

Today all the dogs went to the vet for exams and vaccinations. Yesterday they suffered from exhaustion and anxiety of being abandoned, left to their own skills of survival, clutching to the last spot of dry space. Today they appeared more relaxed, rested and in good spirit.  The scruffies will need major grooming. The fur patches are pulling their flesh, creating sores and rashes. More work to be done to help them gain weight and get them back to good health but we are excited for their futures of being well loved and protected.

We are so very thankful to everyone who has donated their hard earned money to help these precious dogs in need. There was no expectation that we would be taking in so many dogs in one day. We had no plan in place and did not have the ready funds to cover everything needed to care for the pups. There was no question about whether to do something. We had to do something, it is our motto and mission to Protect and Save. Because of your help, we could fulfill our mission.
