Dear Friends and Family,
Over the last few months, my amazing daughter Shelsy has been tested to the extreme limits of her heart and soul. Our family has recently had to deal with a the diagnosis' of cancer, stroke and dementia among my parents. Shelsy's sister also gave birth to twin girls at the same time as my parents health concerns and because I could not be there to support them in person, Shelsy took it upon herself (as she always has) and stepped up to support her grandparents and her sister in their time of need. During this time, Shelsy learned that she was pregnant with her second child, but did not want to add to our families stress
and kept it to herself. The constant effort of taking care of our family and putting them before herself unfortunately caused her to lose her job and no longer able to support her own growing family. Again, she kept all of this to herself as she did not want to burden anyone with her issues.
Last week, all of the stress finally took its toll on Shelsy's body and she was Medivaced to Kapiolani hospital on Oahu where she gave birth to her beautiful son Makaio. He was born premature at 31 weeks but with his mothers love, he has grown and thrived beautifully. Just when things were starting to look up for Shelsy, she was hit with the tragedy of learning that her longtime boyfriend and the father of children, Jon Togioka had passed away. Jon never got to meet his newborn son or say goodbye to his family. Shelsy is now struggling to deal with flying back and forth between Kauai and Oahu to take care of things, deal with Jon being taken in such a way and raising their children by herself while also helping to make arrangements for Jon's funeral services. Baby Makaio remains in the Kapiolani NICU Ward as he continues to grow and Maddy is looked after and loved by both Jon and Shelsy's extended family. With everything that Shelsy is having to deal with and at the urging of so many of our amazing friends and family, we are asking for your help for our daughter and grandchildren. Anything you are willing to donate would be greatly appreciated. Shelsy has always been strong and independent and has always put her family first. I know that she would never ask for help like this even though she truly needs it. Please find it in your heart to help her if you are able. Anything helps and we are truly greatful for your love and support. Thank you so much.
