Years ago, Shannon, worked as an office manager for an inspiring occupational therapist, Dayna K. Willbanks, OTR/L, to assist in opening the outpatient clinic, Elements of Wellness Aquatic & Manual Therapy, Inc. It is there that Shannon found her calling to one day become a manual therapist offering Aquatic Integration and CranioSacral Therapy. She discovered a natural ability in her hands to feel biofeedback and sought out coursework as a layperson to deepen her own understanding of these abilities and skills. After returning to school for the pursuit of medicine, she recognized that the modalities she found to be the most effective offered a more holistic ("whole"-istic) approach.
Since that time she has committed herself to a variety of office jobs in order to utilize her most marketable job skills to pay down debt and decide on the type of license to pursue in order to do the work she has been called to do.
Shannon started the 15-month program at East West College of the Healing Arts last Fall and works full-time while attending classes in the evenings and weekends. We started this fundraiser since Shannon is ineligible for any form of loan due to her previous student debt ratio to her present income. The current goal includes coverage for the cost of the program, books, supplies, additional specialized training courses in CranioSacral Therapy & Aquatic Integration, licensure, and receiving the required professional treatments to learn on a somatic level.
Her big dream is to be able to open a healing space in Portland, OR with a therapy pool for Aquatic Integration, treatment rooms for CranioSacral Therapy, and a movement studio for inclusive and body celebrating dance classes.
Shannon has been actively pursuing increasing her earning potential, but has been unable to increase her income to cover the cost of these added monthly expenses. Hence how we ended up here, with a sincere ask for help and assistance. Shannon continues to fill out scholarship applications and communicate with her family of origin to plan for support from them as it is available.
Please help me, Shannon Ruth Lord, reach my goal in order to receive my license to help people heal themselves. I have been so fortunate to receive so much along my journey to this place, and I am here to give back in the most authentic and genuine ways I am capable of. This is the work I love the most and have been called to do.
If you are unable to donate, please consider helping us spread the word.
Thank You & Be Well!
