The Story

In January of 2017, an ad circulated around Facebook for a free Thoroughbred… with one caveat. The new owner pays for his surgery. You see, Selection, once a promising race horse, suffered from an injury that resulted in a chipped bone; a chip that would have to be removed if he would ever be sound again.

In February of the same year, Serenity Acres Horse Rescue learned of a 10-month-old thoroughbred colt that needed more help than the current owner could give. Stepping out on faith, they rescued the young colt, knowing he would have to have surgery to repair the club foot that he had been born with, and named him Vivaldi.

These are just two examples of the kinds of horses Lindsey Crouse, Serenity Acres Horse Rescue founder, encounters every day. With the horse racing industry being a profit-driven endeavor, a horse's value is dependent upon its ability to run fast. This means horses that are injured, too slow, or too old to race are sold to the highest bidder - which is usually the guy selling horses for slaughter.

These horses' lives are dependent upon rescuers like Lindsey and Serenity Acres Horse Rescue. But Serenity Acres cannot make a difference without the generosity of donors and supporters. If you're a fellow horse lover and want to help keep these incredible Thoroughbreds from being thrown away, please consider donating towards Serenity Acres Horse Rescue's Medical Fund.

Serenity Acres Horse Rescue is a 501(c)(3) that rescues, rehabs and rehomes horses. Our rescue is 100% volunteer based mostly focusing on OTTB.

We have good news and bad news. The good news is, Selection won't be needing surgery! In fact, the surgery would do more harm than good, so with a 12 month layup and an ultrasound in 6 months, he should be back to sound.
Vivaldi, however, is a different story. His surgery estimate came in higher than expected. With some extra handling and taming, it may be able to be done at the ranch, but if his behavior doesn't adjust then he'll need to go to the facility to complete the surgery, which estimates to be between $1200 and $1500. So we reduced the fundraiser down to $1500. Whatever is raised beyond the vet bill will be used for Serenity Acres Horse Rescue's future medical expenses.

Thank uou everyone for your support!

February 20 is National Love Your Pet Day, and while we love all of the residents at Serenity Acres Horse Rescue, today we’re partial to Vivaldi and Selection, in hopes that we can get the funds in order to take care of their medical bills.

As a token of our appreciation to our donors, we’d like to share a bit about Vivaldi with you.

While he started a little bit scared when he came to the ranch, he has warmed up to us a lot. He has a very playful personality, but he is hindered by his clubbed foot.  For now we will get him some toys to play with to keep him happy and his mind occupied.  In the mean time, we are giving him all the love and attention he wants, and he’s soaking up every minute of it.

This little guy deserves a life beyond being crippled by a birth defect.  This is why we make the effort we do. Vivaldi has a great personality, promise, and have we mentioned how gorgeous he is? If you haven’t already, please share our fundraiser with your friends and family.

Thanks!
