This is Scout. This is how chronic pain and recurrent infection looks. Scout has not had a happy few weeks. Scout has had chronic ear problems since he came to us. He has had multiple trips to the Vet, cultures, steroids, different anti-biotics yet nothing seemed to help. For the past month, Scout has had severe pain, constantly crying and rubbing his ears and has been receiving ongoing pain medication until we could get him in to a specialist at the Vet school. A CT Scan revealed that poor Scout has a large mass growing deep inside his ear that is causing him lots of pain and making him functionally deaf in that ear. The only way to help Scout is for him to have an expensive surgery called a Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bullous Osteotomy. That is a mouthful to say but the short explanation is that they must remove the tumor and all involved structures of Scouts ear and make a “window” in the nearby bone to prevent recurrence. The good news is that we can fix Scout and make him pain free. The bad news is that this surgery will cost between $2600 and $2900 which is a huge amount of money for a rescue. We have already spent $2000 on Scout with another $3000 likely. Will you please help us help Scout get out of pain and have a chance to live the remainder of his life as a healthy, happy dog? If so, Scout and UYR would be enormously grateful. We are also very grateful for sharing his story and THANK YOU SO MUCH!
