The Story

As many of you know, Scotty has been battling brain cancer for the past 4 1/2 years. During this battle he’s had 2 open brain surgeries to remove tumor as well as several rounds of chemo and radiation.

Throughout the whole ordeal, Scotty remained totally optimistic about beating it and continued on with his life plans. He pursued his dream of helping and serving people as a Physician’s Assistant (PA) and was able to graduate this summer. He and his wife Emily also expanded their family. Colin came 3 years ago and just this past summer they had twin baby girls.

Unfortunately, the past six months the cancer has come back with a vengeance. It’s been heart breaking to watch a once healthy and strong man rapidly deteriorate. The cancer is intertwined on his brain stem and as a result about 7 months ago, Scotty had a stroke impairing his left side.

Right before Christmas 2015, his monthly brain scan revealed that the tumor had quadrupled in size from just 30 prior. Hearing the news, all six of his siblings and parents dropped everything to come and spend the week of Christmas with Scotty in Mesa, AZ. It was a beautiful time for the family to spend precious time with him while he could still talk and walk.

Scotty is a spiritual giant and despite it all, his faith and trust in God never wavered. While most of us would be tempted to be resentful at God, Scotty never doubted that God has a grand purpose in his life.

Since Christmas, Scotty declined rapidly losing his ability to walk, talk and eventually swallow. Although the cancer took his body's ability to function, his mind remained in tact. He was able to write notes and laugh with us right to the very end. His siblings and parents all came to rally behind him, caring for him around the clock and showering him with love and support. His church provided help with kids, cleaning, meals and anything and everything that was needed.

At the age of 34, Scotty passed on February 3, 2016 early in the morning surrounded by his family. Scotty had an amazing ability to make everyone he came in contact with feel loved and special. He exemplified the Savior Jesus Christ in all his dealings with his fellow man. He stood firm in the faith his whole life and is now in the care of God.

His family created this donation page as a way to allow others to provide financial support for his beautiful wife and 5 children. Every little bit goes a long way in helping in this great time of need. We have been overwhelmed with all of your love, prayers and support and thank you sincerely from the bottom of our hearts.

Scotty Needs Your Faith and Support!

As many of you know, Scotty has been battling brain cancer for the past 4 years.

Colon came 2 ½ years ago and just this past summer they had twin baby girls.

Unfortunately, the past six months, the cancer has come back with a vengeance. It’s been heart breaking to watch a once healthy and strong man rapidly deteriorate. The cancer is intertwined on his brain stem and as a result about 2 months ago, Scotty had a stroke impairing his left side.

This past Christmas, his monthly brain scan revealed that the tumor has quadrupled in size from just 30 days ago. Hearing the news, all six of his siblings and his parents dropped everything to come and spend the week of Christmas with him.

Although sleeping much of the day, Scotty was still coherent to spend time with all of us. We each had special moments with him to go for short walks, do some stretches, read scriptures and pray.

You see, Scotty is a spiritual giant and despite it all, his faith and trust in God has not wavered. While most of us would be tempted to be resentful at God, Scotty never doubted that God has a grand purpose in his life.

Since Christmas, Scotty has declined even more physically. His can no longer talk, he’s struggling to walk, go to the bathroom and do simple things like swallow. It’s a great blessing that at his current state his mind has remained in tact. He communicates by writing notes and he is still the loving, kind Scotty we all know.

He’s hanging on to life day by day right now but we haven’t given up. We’re currently trying a new procedure called immunotherapy.

Please pray for his mom, she’s having such a hard time. Pray for Scotty but above all else pray for Scotty’s wife, Emily and his 5 children. They need peace and comfort right now. We believe in miracles and the Norton family needs your faith right now.

Help financially. Scotty hasn’t been able to work and provide for his family. There are many needs right now and we ask you again from the bottom of our heart to make a donation. Anything you can do to help makes such a difference.

Thank you again for all of you and your support during this difficult time.

Thank you so very much for your generous donations to help Scott and his family! They really appreciate each of you for your support!

Here is Scott's most recent update: Scotty had an MRI and oncologist appointment this last Friday. It was a really great appointment. His scans show that his brain is slowly continuing to heal!

The swelling is down and almost back to normal and the tumor is stable (unchanged) in some images and it was noticeably improved and even smaller in others and there wasn't any new growth. So we know that the treatments are working. His neuro oncologist was really pleased with the results and said that she feels more hopeful for Scott's recovery after this visit.

Due to this progress, his doctor wants to taper him off of most of the treatments over the next two months. She wants to keep him going on the chemo for a while though.

We've been able to see a lot of improvement in him over the last month and it's been really encouraging. We're hoping he will be doing even better once he has completed most of his treatments. He still hasn't regained full control over his left side, but for now he has adjusted and found ways to work around it.

We are truly grateful for Scott's progress right now. We continue to put our trust and faith in God's plan for us and we are trying to have our best patience as we keep learning from this journey with cancer.

Thank you for all of your help and support to our family, it has lightened our burdens and made a huge difference for us at this time.
