Update: I've been awarded the Bryn Kelly Scholarship for Trans Women/Trans Femme writers, which covers my tuition and travel. Excess funds from this fundraiser will go toward helping me pay for healthcare and living expenses.
Hey, y'all! I'm a queer, neurodivergent, transsexual poet living in Oklahoma. I was accepted into the Lambda Literary Writers Retreat For Emerging LGBTQ Voices this year, which is a big deal for me. I got a scholarship, but it doesn't cover everything. I need your help to get out there.
I'm probably the only transsexual, queer, neurodivergent poet to ever come out of Fairdealing, Missouri. A lot of my writing takes a neuroqueer phenomenological approach to time, place, and embodiment. My poems have been featured in Matrix, The Fem, and The Wanderer. Last year, I went to the 2016 Trans Women Writers Workshop hosted by Topside Press and Brooklyn College.
I currently live in central Oklahoma, where I'm underemployed and paying out of pocket for medical expenses. Just getting my meds and keeping a roof over my head out here is a struggle.
About the Writers Retreat
The Lambda Literary Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices is kind of a big deal. You can read about it here. It's taking place at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles this August.
The poetry workshop this year will be taught by TC Tolbert. Rad!
About This Fundraiser
I'm asking for $1,000 to cover airfare to Los Angeles and the portion of tuition not covered by my scholarship. Tuition includes lodging and meals.
If I receive donations in excess of $1,000, they will go to help cover my healthcare costs and to help me move out of Oklahoma to a safer and more stable situation somewhere else.
