On August 27, my husband and I waded through high waters to help my mom, Sandra, escape from her home. With water rising quickly, she was not able to save a lot of her belongings. She grabbed a quick bag and left her house, not knowing if it would still be there when she returns. This woman is the definition of strength. In 2017 alone, she has undergone Chemotherapy to fight against ovarian cancer. A month after winning that battle, her house fell victim to Hurricane Harvey and all of his wrath. Her home took in about 2 feet of water, but the hardest part is the water is going down very slowly. With water now out of her house, it just sits in the streets. We have not been able to even begin the clean up process. After living in this house for over 20 years, this is the first time her home has come close to flooding. She has a long road ahead of her with a lot of expenses. She does not have any flood insurance and all expenses will be coming out of her own pocket. On top of those expenses, she is trying to put her youngest daughter through college, all while doing this on her own. While we are confident that we will rebuild and be strong, your help will ease the burden of HUGE financial expenses to come. We love our city, we are hoUSton Strong!
