The Story

They’ve lost their homes, their boats and their livelihood. Please help us help them get back on their feet.

ASA schools and instructors from Texas to Florida and the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean have been hit by the two devastating recent hurricanes. Schools have lost their buildings and many or all of their boats. Sailing Instructors, school owners and their employees have lost their homes and their ability to make a living. Please help us help them.

To sailors the ocean has always been the ultimate playground with beautiful scenic Islands, trade winds and people. There are thousands of people that rely on the marine industry for their livelihood. All of those sailing schools, charter companies and, mom and pop businesses that made the US coasts and the Caribbean a comfortable friendly place to go have been deeply affected.

We must help our friends and fellow sailors. First we must help them get the necessities; then we need to help them reestablish their businesses so that they can put their lives back together. We set up a relief fund in response to the overwhelming outreach we have received from ASA’s members, instructors and certified sailors who want to help. All donations will help support the employees of our affiliated sailing schools and charter companies and help them rebuild and reopen. We at ASA are heartbroken that our friends and their families in the Gulf and the Caribbean have lost so much.

Please make a donation today. 100% of your tax-free donation will go to help.

In 1982 ASA was founded as an association of sailing schools, sailing clubs, and charter companies in the US with the goal of developing a standardized multi tier system of sailing education. Today ASA has a family of 350 affiliates in 27 countries around the world. The ASA has 7000 instructors and has taught over ½ million people to sail. Please help!

Thanks to everyone who has already donated to our hurricane relief fund... We are almost half way to achieving our goal...

You might be surprised to learn that many ASA schools are open and ready for your business even in the aftermath of the numerous hurricanes - but they still need our help.

The news coverage of the damage has led many people to think that their plans to enroll in sailing classes or to charter a sailboat this fall and winter will have to be postponed or cancelled. But, amazingly, even in the most damaged areas, through preparation, seasonal boat movement, or just plain luck, there are ASA Certified Sailing Schools ready for classes and charters.

For those less fortunate the road to recovery continues to be a struggle and any donation, big or small, will go a long way to helping these schools & instructors get back on their feet.
