The Story

UPDATE: When the John M. Simpson Foundation offered to match every dollar you give, up to $5,000, we had no idea you'd beat that goal. Because YOU are so amazing, we have created a "super stretch goal" of $10,000. If you help us meet this goal, you will not only Help Roo Roll by getting her a mobility cart, expensive hip surgery, and all the rehabilitation care she needs, you will help us continue to provide specialty medications and equipment to Pima Animal Care Center so they can keeping saving pets like her. Thank you!

STORY: Roo, a 1-year-old Chihuahua born without front legs because of inbreeding, was one of 40 small dogs Pima Animal Care Center rescued from a hoarding house on Sept. 4. They have all needed lots of TLC -- but none more than sweet and spunky Roo! We are PACC's nonprofit partner, the Friends of PACC, and we want to help, but we need YOU. PACC has done everything they can in-house … now Roo needs to see an orthopedic specialist, who can determine what she needs to lead a happy, healthy life. She will need costly surgery on her arthritic hip, as well as a mobility cart so she can roll. We are a 501c3 nonprofit, and your donations are tax-deductible.

Our EIN is 47-4160770. We will send you an emailed tax receipt. If you have any questions about your donation, please write [email protected] Thank you for your generous support!

***Please note Roo will not be available for adoption for at least 2 months, and that we are not able to take reservations at this time. Thank you for your patience***

Dear friends,

Because of you, we have ordered Roo's wheelchair, which should arrive within 2 weeks!!!

Once Roo has learned to roll, the doctors at Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson can proceed with scheduling the hip surgery this little darling needs to be as healthy, happy and pain-free as she can possibly be. If all goes as is hoped with Roo's surgery and recovery, we should not only have enough funds to help her; we should have enough remaining to keep helping Pima Animal Care Center save other pets like her. THANK YOU!

For now, Roo enjoys coming to work every day with her foster mom, who works in a quiet space at PACC. She has lots of blankets, beds, treats and toys. After Roo's surgery, she will need up to 2 months to heal, so we don't expect her to be ready for adoption for some time. In the meantime, if you need a little dose of Roo, you can see her Dodo appearance here :)

Thanks to all of you for making a difference for little Roo!

You are all so amazing!

On Monday, Roo visited Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson, thanks to all of YOU who supported her. The kind experts there said she will likely need FHO surgery on her injured hip -- but first, they said, she needs a cart, and so they tenderly measured her for it!

We're reaching out to the manufacturer for options, and we know that because of YOUR support, Roo Will Roll!

You can see pictures of her doctor's visit here.

Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you again for your support!

WOW ... you all are ROCKING it for Roo! Because of your tremendous support, she has a visit with a specialist at Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson on Monday morning. This weekend, PACC's head vet, Dr. Jen Wilcox, will send Roo's records over to them. Stay tuned for more news about what Roo needs to thrive!

Also, when we announced that our partners at the John M. Simpson Foundation would match every dollar you give, up to $5,000, we had no idea you'd help us beat that goal. Because YOU are so amazing, we have created a "stretch goal" of $6,500. If our tremendous community helps us meet this stretch goal, it will not only help Roo roll, it will help us continue to provide specialty medications and equipment so that PACC's Medical Team can save lives. Thank you so much!

P.S. -- Many of you have asked if and when Roo will be ready for adoption. We don't know, but we'll be sure to tell you when we do!
