On Tuesday, May 1st, Rod Hand and his kayak were found washed ashore near Pebble Beach in California by a local surfer. Rod was attempting a 60-90 day solo kayak paddle from California to Hawaii to raise aweness to Wounded Warriors. Rod had no pulse and responding paramedics got a pulse back through CPR.
Rod's family (sister, parents, and twin children) have travelled from Texas to California to be by Rod's side. Their expenses will be significant. I would like to raise funds so they can remain with Rod. Rod's children will benefit most from the assistance - they need to stay by their Dad.
Rod has remained unresponsive and on life support. However, an MRI on May 3 showed activity to most of his brain with damage to others. Rod's road to recovery will be a battle, but if anyone could survive this, Rod could. I've known Rod for over 20 years. He is the most humble and giving person I've ever met. It's time to help him and his family.
Rod is a former Army Ranger who spent most of his law enforcement career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons before retiring from the Air Marshals. He is now a volunteer firefighter and Engine Boss with Tallahassee Volunteer Fire Department and has been deployed to numerous national wildfires along with serving at local fires. He responds to local emergencies and vehicle accidents routinely.
Funds are directly deposited to Rod's sister, Lynn, who is handling all matters for the family. Please continue to pray for Rod and send all the positive energy you can.
NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL AND GREATLY APPRECIATED !
