Funds donated here will support the development of ongoing programs for long-term impact and community security, needs highlighted by the tragic fire that took 36 lives on December 2, 2016 in Oakland, CA.
Gray Area Foundation of the Arts, as a non-profit with staff immediately aware of and directly affected by the loss, began collecting donations and distributing to those affected by the tragic event through a separate YouCaring campaignand direct donations from December 3, 2016 through April 14, 2017.
During the campaign period many families and donors opted to allocate their donations to the development of a resiliency project. Many local groups below have already begun this very important work on-the-ground work such as:
• Oakland Warehouse Coalition
• Safer DIY Spaces
• We the Artists of the Bay Area
We intend to complement and honor their efforts as we develop plans. The project's development will involve community outreach and partnerships, and administrators will collaborate with many already served to inform the work.
Gray Area's Oakland Fire Fund will only be accepting donations for this purpose moving forward. Program details will be announced during the summer of 2017. Gray Area is committed to serving our community in 2017 and beyond, whether through supporting education, legislation, or providing the means necessary to create safe spaces. Gray Area Foundation for the Arts is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization tax-id 26-3383316. Your donations to this campaign are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
