Thank you all so much for continuing to support our fundraiser. Back in September our intention was to feed the residents of Calais at least one warm, nutritious meal a day. Half a year later we are sending out 2000 meals a day to Calais and Dunkirk and have achieved incredible support in many ways via generous donations of money and food, and by a stream of willing volunteers who selflessly keep our kitchen going by chef-ing, chopping and washing-up.
As well as our kitchen in Calais we’ve created a community kitchen, dining areas and free shop for the residents of the new refugee camp in Dunkirk to use themselves so they can cook. It’s been an incredible success and is so appreciated by the 1000+ families there, but we do need on-going support.
For those of you who have organised fund-raising events we are so grateful. From gigs to auctions to comedy nights to sponsored knits, every bit helps so much. If you want to organise an event of any kind, small or large, do let us know and we’ll post it on our website’s events page https://refugeecommunitykitchen.com/events/ and help promote via Twitter and Facebook.
We still need volunteers - please come for a day, a weekend or a week. The Refugee Community Kitchen is based in L’Auberge des Migrants warehouse (off-site). We would love you to work with us but If you don’t fancy working in the kitchen with great chefs, you can work alongside preparing thousands of food parcels or sorting donations out in the same warehouse. There is no upper age limit, in fact older the better, and you can do as many hours in the day that you can handle. There is so much to do, the atmosphere is radiant and you will feel very satisfied after and it's addictive. So please email us to register asap we will send you all the information you need re accommodation and travel and feed you mind body and soul. We are booking chefs for May and June now, please email [email protected]
for more information and non-chef volunteers should email [email protected]
Also, please keep sharing this page on Facebook and Twitter, it really helps.
The situation here, though ever-changing, is not going away and we still need your help in every way to provide nutritious and vibrant hot food daily, your collective efforts and donations are keeping our sustained offerings diverse, tasty and heart warming.
