The Story

Refugee Community Kitchen was created in the winter of 2015 to provide nutritious food for the refugees in the Calais and Dunkirk camps.
A group of us - event organisers, chefs, caterers, journalists and activists - banded together to help the refugees living in the camps of Europe.

We came together to create a kitchen and feed these people. Feed them warm food, nourishing food, food that will sustain them and their children through the water-logged, muddy, freezing winter and beyond.

After months of fulfilling our mission and supplying up to 2500 meals a day at the height of winter 2016, we still find ourselves maintaining the supply of 2500 hot, healthy and nutritious meals a day, everyday in Calais and Dunkirk.

Spring 2016 saw us embarking on building communal kitchens, supplying food ingredients, which allowed the residents in the camps to cook their own food giving the dignity of feeding and providing for their own families as well as setting up UKoutreach serving food to the homeless in the UK.
Presently (Winter 2018 ) with no camps in place the situation Northern France is now worse than ever, the refugees have no shelter, they are sleeping in the woods, in the ditches and under the flyovers. Refugee Community Kitchen is needed more now than ever.

Refugee Community Kitchen continues to collaborate with other volunteer groups and NGO’s to make sure that as long as this crisis continues there will be hot and healthy food available to those in need.

This can only be done with your continued support in both donations and volunteering in the kitchen.
Recurring donations allow us to commit to this consistent work.

Since its start on 1 December, 2016 RCK has:
  • Served over 1,825,000 warm, nutritious meals.
  • Not missed a service. That’s 732 days or 1/4 million hours.
  • Been supported by over 12,000 volunteers.
  • Fundraised for & built a restaurant-grade kitchen and multiple community kitchens in refugee camps.
  • Supported thousands of people through three major camp evictions, multiple fires and dozens of smaller upheavals.
  • Sent aid to Paris & 3 containers of food to Syria.
  • RCKUKOutreach has served hot nutritious meals in London 3 times every week
Given out lots & lots of love.

Despite numerous hardships and an extremely limited budget, we continue to do the right thing. Rain or shine, in the face of perpetual upheaval, police abuse and whatever other obstacles come our way, we will continue to serve wholesome, soul-warming food to displaced people at home and abroad.

Two years on and we’re more needed than ever. Much love and thanks to all of you who have donated, volunteered, fundraised, shared & cared- we couldn’t have made it this far without you! Please keep giving & sharing so that we can keep going.

Hello kind friends and RCK supporters

!! Mobile Support Winter Campaign !!

Winter is coming and for most of us that means cosy evenings in our warmed homes, snacking on foods from our fridges and cupboards as and when we feel like it and sharing warming stews and hot soups with our friends and families.
Not so for the thousands in refugee camps on Europe’s borders who will be enduring freezing temperatures, scarce provisions and minimal cooking facilities.

Regardless of recent eviction announcements of the Calais camp,
Refugee Community Kitchen is dedicated to continuing the work begun in December 2015 in the Calais and Dunkirk camps where over 570,000 meals have been served to date along with the creation of self-service shops and kitchens. We will provide for these camps and all displaced peoples until we are not needed anymore.

Refugee Community Kitchen is also going mobile this winter to serve the same hot, nutritious meals that every human deserves to others living in camps across the continent.
Travelling with a full mobile catering truck, fridge truck and marquees along with a dedicated team of chefs and volunteers, we will seek those most in need and work with locals and other grassroots organisations and NGOs to enable displaced peoples to eat and cook their own food and prepare meals for their families.

Your support has been awesome and the only way we can continue with this humanitarian mission is with your continued help.
Going on-the-road and supplying our static kitchen in Calais will take a lot more money and resources so please increase your efforts to fundraise, donate and do what you can -
your help is essential and deeply appreciated.

Please share this appeal across social media channels and amongst your friends and family.
thanks in advance
Steve, Sam, Janie & Paula

Hi everyone its been a while since we updated as its Calais has been very busy as the camp have grown daily in size and need.
The media has tried to black out that the camps are growing and the ongoing and need but your donations are still coming in and being used daily for hot and cold food distribution, the food lines have grown and the families are more and more dependant as the possibility of moving on grows slimmer every day.
We wanted to say thank you and assure you that the work goes on.
We will feed till there are no more mouths to feed
We are all one love
Janie, Steve, Sam & Paula
