The Story

Puerto Rico is my childhood, it is my home, and it is where many of my friends and family live today. Words cannot describe how it feels to see it destroyed beyond recognition.

Now is the time for us to use our hearts, our humanity, and our resources to help. So many people need it desperately. My goal is to raise $10 million dollars for relief and rebuild efforts. I will personally match every dollar raised on this page up to $5 million dollars. 100% of what we raise on this site will go directly to relief/rebuild efforts.

Much of our public health and power infrastructure has been destroyed by the storm itself and what little is left continues to degrade due to ongoing floods. The damage is historic - worse than we feared - and the full extent of it has yet to be measured.

Our top priority is to get funds quickly and then make sure they have the greatest possible impact on peoples’ lives. We’re working to identify the most immediate needs and getting relief to vulnerable populations. After that, the focus will shift to catalyze long-term solutions, and ultimately, to help rebuild.

If you’re able to give, any amount helps and is greatly appreciated. If you cannot give, then please share. Please help us show our friends, family members, and fellow citizens in Puerto Rico that even though we’re miles apart, we will stand together. They are not alone.

Sincerely,

Ric Elias

Update: Just spent the last two days of Spring Break in Puerto Rico where I had the pleasure of meeting many of the families preparing to move into their new homes through Rebuild Puerto Rico. Amazing to see this progress. Much more to come.

Update: I am in Puerto Rico this weekend and am incredibly humbled to award Rebuild Puerto Rico’s first homes to some truly deserving families.  Thank you to all of our supporters for helping get these families back on their feet. This is only the beginning. #rebuildpuertorico

Quick update as we begin the New Year:

The situation in Puerto Rico is still dire, but thanks to your support, we now have a system in place to make a real difference for those who need it most:

-Over the last several months, we’ve established a network of builders, land-owners, and financing companies to create a program that will put Puerto Rican families back into homes. Right now, we have four different projects that are underway or in negotiations that will get us close to 100 homes.

-We are focusing on very specific, hard-hit towns that are not getting the same aid that some of the major towns are getting. We’re focused not only on housing, but also on working families - especially those with young children - who are not getting enough support to get back on their feet.

-I am heading down with a small group later this month to award the homes and get that process started. I will share as many updates as I can on social media (@RicElias) while we’re down there.

It has been an incredible and heartwarming process to see the reactions of the people we’re going to help, and it is all thanks to you and your generous contributions. We’re confident that 2018 will be a year of enormous progress and that every dollar will have a real impact.

I can’t thank you enough for your support.

Ric
