As many of you have seen, The Florida Keys have taken a major hit after a Category 4 Hurricane (Hurricane Irma) hit on Sunday September 10, 2017. This was one of the worst, most devastating storms the Keys has ever faced. The hardest part was being separated from loved ones, family, friends, who were evacuated and sent to different parts of Florida and even other states, and watching this all unfold on tv knowing there was absolutely nothing you could do about it. We knew there would be devastation but that fear of the unknown is gut wrenching. Many assumed they would not have anything to return to and unfortunately this is the heartbreaking reality, they don't. Getting ready for a hurricane like this to hit you almost feel you are getting ready for life to be over, because if very well could be. Hurricane Harvey was fresh on everyone's minds and we saw what Texas had gone through and we were about to get hit even worse. The mark that Irma has left on the keys is unsightly, but WE WILL REBUILD together as a community and with any help that we can get.
The Keys holds a special place in many hearts as mine as Marathon is my home. Whether you were directly affected, a friend or family member were affected, or you have vacationed here and, you hold the Keys close to your heart. After an overwhelming out pour of people asking me how they can donate and help, I have set up this fundraiser to help collect money for any supplies possible for the Keys. Currently we are without power, sewage, cell service, etc. 100% of the funds from this fundraiser will be donated to helping rebuild the Keys whether it's for equipment, building materials, food, water, every day items needed to survive, etc. I am in Marathon, Fl now with limited access to the outside world and I figured this is the best way for us to work together and get the funds that we need to start this process. The scene is heartbreaking and I am trying my best to get information to people that are asking but it's hard when everything is turned upside down and there are no street signs. I will do anything I can to help Marathon and our sister communities to rebuild. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of Marathon, we could not do this without you.
