Post from a year ago: Ray is 41 years old, and married his High School sweetheart, Christy 18 years ago. They are truly an amazing couple, and the proud parents of three beautiful children, ages 14, 12, and 8, whom they adore.
On November 3, 2014, Ray was diagnosed with Stage 4 Throat Cancer. Since that time, he has had three surgeries and completed intense chemotherapy along with 40 plus radiation treatments. They were hopeful that the treatment would cure his cancer; however, that was not the case. As they were giving his body time to heal from the treatments, he also completed 40 hyperbaric chamber treatments to heal the wound left in his throat from the radiation. More time was given to let his body heal, but the scans never showed any improvement. In December 2015, he had another biopsy surgery, which revealed that the cancer was still present. Their last option to cure the cancer was to undergo radical neck dissection surgery with reconstruction. This surgery was on February 9, 2016 at Chapel Hill. Sadly, the doctors were unable to remove all of the cancer because of the proximity of vital organs in his neck. Ray continued to fight with trying several different treatments, but unfortunately, nothing worked. In April 2017, they made the difficult decision to stop all treatments. Ray and his amazing family are now doing all that they can to enjoy every day that they still have with him!
Please help in any way that you can! Prayers and donations are so appreciated! They truly have enough to worry about, so let's do all that we can to spread the word and raise money for this wonderful family!!!
“We have been truly humbled by the amount of support, love, and prayers given to us during this time. Although this journey has not been an easy one, it has definitely been more bearable knowing we have so many family, friends, and our community as a whole supporting us. As long as we have breath left in our bodies, we will always FIGHT DURTY!” - The Burrow Family
