The Story

Post from a year ago: Ray is 41 years old, and married his High School sweetheart, Christy 18 years ago. They are truly an amazing couple, and the proud parents of three beautiful children, ages 14, 12, and 8, whom they adore.

On November 3, 2014, Ray was diagnosed with Stage 4 Throat Cancer. Since that time, he has had three surgeries and completed intense chemotherapy along with 40 plus radiation treatments. They were hopeful that the treatment would cure his cancer; however, that was not the case. As they were giving his body time to heal from the treatments, he also completed 40 hyperbaric chamber treatments to heal the wound left in his throat from the radiation. More time was given to let his body heal, but the scans never showed any improvement. In December 2015, he had another biopsy surgery, which revealed that the cancer was still present. Their last option to cure the cancer was to undergo radical neck dissection surgery with reconstruction. This surgery was on February 9, 2016 at Chapel Hill.  Sadly, the doctors were unable to remove all of the cancer because of the proximity of vital organs in his neck. Ray continued to fight with trying several different treatments, but unfortunately, nothing worked. In April 2017, they made the difficult decision to stop all treatments. Ray and his amazing family are now doing all that they can to enjoy every day that they still have with him!

Please help in any way that you can! Prayers and donations are so appreciated! They truly have enough to worry about, so let's do all that we can to spread the word and raise money for this wonderful family!!!

“We have been truly humbled by the amount of support, love, and prayers given to us during this time. Although this journey has not been an easy one, it has definitely been more bearable knowing we have so many family, friends, and our community as a whole supporting us. As long as we have breath left in our bodies, we will always FIGHT DURTY!” - The Burrow Family

From Christy, May 11th:
This man Fought Durty until the very end and now it's time for him to rest easy in the arms of the Lord. He fulfilled his mission and I know God is pleased...he has literally inspired the world! He did it all on his terms and left me so peacefully that there is no other explanation but God!! I'm thankful for all Ray has given me. This man accomplished so much..he brought us all together and taught us so many valuable life lessons. He showed us that love truly does conquer all and it's all that matters. I couldn't be more proud of his willpower, determination, strength, fight and WIN over cancer!! I can't begin to thank everyone for all of the blessings you all have so graciously poured out on our family. Please know that no act goes unnoticed and we are forever grateful! Much love from the Burrow's ❤️

Please pray hard for this sweet family and support them in ANY way that you can!!!

Update from Christy: Since November 3, 2014 Ray and I have been very transparent and open about his cancer diagnosis. Our hopes were for his journey to be a testimony and inspiration to others. Yesterday we made a very difficult and emotional decision to stop all treatments. Simply put, the cancer is too aggressive and his body is too weak. We will soon be receiving support from hospice care. We have received so much love and support over the last 2 1/2 years and are very thankful to you all and ask that we will continue to be lifted in prayer. Ray said that he's still gonna Fight Durty!!! No matter the outcome we believe that God is sovereign and we trust in Him. Miracles still happen every single day and we have faith in that but we also know that the beast named cancer doesn't play fair. Although this is not the outcome we were praying for we know that the Lord is still in control. My hopes are that Ray and his "fight" with cancer will always be an encouragement to everyone. Again, we thank you all so much! Our family, friends, community and medical teams have come together as a powerful force making this journey one of love, inspiration, hope and encouragement.
Much love from the Burrow's ❤️
