Our dear longtime friends — Randy Gener & Stephen Nisbet — experienced a devastating fire in their New York apartment building on Sunday, January 21, 2018. Their home and material possessions are now gone.
We are raising money to help them pay some of their medical bills and to support them in the rebuilding of their lives. They wish to return to their apartment, which Stephen has called home for 44 years.
Together Stephen & Randy fought the fire and successfully extinguished it using the building's internal firehose system and their own resources. During the time they defended the building, Stephen and Randy suffered significant smoke inhalation and Randy has a deep cut over his left eye.
As some of you may know, Randy has been in recovery from a brutal assault while walking home from a Broadway opening night in 2014. Despite his Traumatic Brain Injury and major hearing loss, Randy has been healing daily. He has been working hard to transform his life once again. He just completed his first semester pursuing a Master’s of Science degree at Columbia Journalism School - a lifetime dream for Randy. Now that, too, is in jeopardy.
Your support will help Stephen & Randy with the cost of temporary housing and living expenses for at least 3 months in New York. They lost everything in their home - including Randy’s library of books, many signed by authors who mentored him. There are unforeseen expenses that are very likely to come as they go through the process of rebuilding.
Please help Stephen & Randy’s return to their home. With your support, our friends will see a brighter day coming.
