Help James Celebrate His 10th Birthday By Donating Money So His Family Can Buy A Wheel-Chair Equipped Van!
My name is James and my birthday is almost here!!! I’m going to be 10 years old at the end of November. While most kids want toys for their birthday, what I really want MOST and desperately NEED is a wheel-chair accessible van. But they aren’t cheap and start around $41,000. I know what you’re thinking…I’m way too young to drive. However I need to get to Orange County Children’s Hospital (CHOC) and my numerous other doctors’ appointments which are 50 to 150 miles away from where I live. I’d love to be able to visit with family and friends and explore the world around me. I’m growing and getting bigger. In fact, my mom can barely lift me now. Her back and arms are constantly in pain. She struggles to carry me places and especially when she has to put me in the car.
The amazing thing, though is that I’m still here. They call me a miracle child because I was born 11 weeks early. They said I would not live beyond 3 years old.
I’m grateful to be alive, although I can’t walk or talk. I eat through a feeding tube and will wear diapers the rest of my life. I have beautiful blue eyes and blonde curly hair. I can see, hear and laugh. My fondest wish, besides getting the van, is that one day that I will be able to communicate my love and deep thoughts to everyone around me.
I spent the first 5 months of my life in intensive care. I had water on my brain that was pushing my brain against my skull. This happened because of a brain bleed. Hydrocephalus is life threatening and brain surgery is the only way to fix the problem. Fluid was also in my lungs at birth and I had to be on a ventilator for months with oxygen. My eyes even bled. Before I was a year old, I had 8 surgeries to fix the pressure in my brain! I’ve now had 56 surgeries. My will to live is STRONG!
I have hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy and epilepsy. I also have blood clots and frequent seizures. Fortunately my 4 brothers and sisters are completely healthy. As a single mother, my mom does a wonderful job of providing around-the-clock care for me. I’m the youngest and she spoils and adores me. She tells me every day that I am the light of her life.
I know times are tough for everyone. Recently there’s been hurricanes and earthquakes around the world. And everyone has lots of bills to pay. However, I’d really appreciate it, if you could help my mom and me out. Help me celebrate my 10th birthday by donating just a few of your hard earned dollars so we can get our wheel-chair accessible van. Getting a specially-equipped van will allow my mom to better transport me to all the places we need to go. You can help make this the best birthday I’ve ever had. My mom is a proud woman who has worked all her life until I was born. She helps all those around her. She is not comfortable asking strangers for money. At the very least, if you are unable to give at this time please share this on your Facebook wall, so others can help us out. Thank you for your generosity and support. God bless!
