My children's mother Rachel Hawkinsis one of the most soul lifting characters i have ever met in all my life. Her kind heart, her gentle and giving nature, her tenacity, and her fierce determination are nothing short of inspirational. I have witnessed and been a part of her journey from the troubled teenager she once was to a become the amazing young woman she is today. She is an amazing mother to our 2 children, and i feel honoured and lucky to have her in our lives.
Sadly, just before Christmas 2016 at just 30 years of age Rachel was diagnosed with Gastric Cancer, which is one of the most severe known forms of Cancer and has only a 10% survival rate. For those of you who know Rachel i would imagine now that you are in shock and asking how this has happened, allow me to explain briefly....
This began with a simple infection called H Pylori,a bacterial infection which attacks the gastric system and is easily treated with a course of anti-biotics. However, due to years of misdiagnosis, mistreatment and mishandling by the numerous doctors and specialists she has seen over the last 5 years this infection eventually caused her to develop Gastric Paresis, which is a total shutdown of the digestive system. Due to this Rachel cannot eat and drink has to be tube fed. Due to the H Pylori she developed large ulcers and sores inside her stomach which then also became infected and have caused her excruciating pain resulting in numerous extended stays in hospital. By the time they detected and treated the H Pylori it was too late. Misdiagnosed and left untreated for so long these sores and ulcers developed into Cancerous tumours, and cells from these tumours have now spread far around her gastric system. Upon her diagnosis she was told at first that because of the state of her health (due to her previous health complications) that there was nothing they could do to treat the Cancer, basically that we were going to lose her and there was nothing they could do. Rachel phoned me crying uncontrollably with the news that she is going to die, which I then inevitably had to sit with Rachel and tell the children. I cannot even begin to put into words how devastating and soul destroying this is for our family, in particular our two children Cheyenne (12) and Kal-El (8) who love her so dearly. Rachel is also a daughter, a sister (the youngest of 3), a niece, an auntie and a friend to many.
Thankfully due to a successful medical procedure at the 11th hour which has allowed her to gain weight, the hospital have decided to overturn their decision not to treat Rachel and have decided to give her the go ahead to receive Chemotherapy. However, because of the stage of her Cancer the hospital has advised us that the Chemo will not cure Rachel of her cancer. It is not going to save her life, but it will buy her some more time, which is something that at the time of her diagnosis she did not have a lot of. Anybody who knows Rachel on an intrinsic level will know that she has a fighting spirit unparalleled and second to none, and she has assured me that she is not going down without a fight. Her strength and courage is nothing short of inspirational and we are so proud of her.
We are at the stage now where we have to make every moment count. Every day we still have Rachel with us is precious and we have to make the most of the time we have left with her.
In light of this I call upon you, the community, family, friends and associates to help me to help Rachel fulfil one of her dreams while she still has time.…..
It has always been a dream for Rachel to take the children on holiday abroad and I want to help her take herself, her mother and the children on the ultimate holiday of a lifetime. I am attempting to raise enough money for them all to go to Disneyland Paris to have the time of their lives with the time they have left with their Mum. I ask you all to please generously donate, and and also to share this link far and wide so that we can raise enough money hopefully to fund the entire trip. I costed the whole trip including Travel, Hotel, and entry to the parks at £8000 to give them the ultimate holiday of a lifetime so i'm setting that figure as a minimum. Anything upwards of that will go towards spending money for the children, and will help to create some amazing memories which will last a forever. Whatever money is left over will go towards making the rest of Rachel's time on earth comfortable and as happy as can be.
Love and Light to you all, thank you so much for your time.
