Hello friends and family. We are raising funds to help cover the direct medical expenses related to Quinn’s cancer treatment as well as to offset the financial impact of having our lives uprooted and income opportunities impacted, and now to support the extensive damage to our home and property in Anguilla, British West Indies. Thank you all for taking the time to share in our experience and for being so supportive for each of us during these challenging events. Special thanks go out to Chris and Mary, Grammy and Pop, and Tutu who have opened their homes for us and supported us since day one of this journey when we landed in Boston.
The year 2017 has been quite a rollercoaster for our family of five. Since Father's Day on June 18th, our youngest son, Quinn (4 years old), has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, had surgery to remove it and is part way through cancer treatment at St. Jude in Memphis, TN. We have radiation behind us and chemotherapy ahead of us. Since the unfortunate news of his diagnosis, the ongoing prognosis and test results have been very favorable. He has been placed in the lowest risk category here at St. Jude, where Beth and I have largely relocated in support of his treatment.
The diagnosis has had a reverberating impact on our whole family and our older boys, Jovial and Lucas, have been uprooted from their familiar lives and are now living with amazing family and friends. Lucas (14 years old) has been living with Beth's brother John and his family in Western Massachusetts since the start of his first year of high school. Jovial (17 years old on Nov 15th) has ultimately been relocated to Brooklyn, NY and is living with great friends of ours, Oliver, Britta and Wilhelmina. We are so grateful for this support from these special people in our lives, though we miss our boys so much. Special thanks go out to Ira, Bonnie and Tobie Bloom for taking such great care of Jovial and providing a home for him in Anguilla until Hurricane Irma changed everyone's plans.
Unfortunately, on Sept 6th, our home island Anguilla suffered a category 5+ hurricane and the damage to our property and island is widespread and extensive. While this event plays second fiddle for us as compared to Quinn’s treatment, it is also a major life-altering event that we have not completely been able to process. This storm unfortunately prevented Quinn from visiting his home, and its beautiful beaches, during our recent five week break from St. Jude. It has also prevented Jovial from going back to his school to finish is senior year.
Through all of this, we are staying positive and The Mighty Quinn has been an amazing champion. No child should have to go through this but we know that all of us, including Quinn, will come out the other side of this even stronger than when we started.
