The Story

UPDATE: We are now focusing all of our fundraising efforts towards helping a Jackson Heights tenant -

Louis Flores is a long-time housing justice organizer, LGBTQ activist, transparency journalist and founder of Progress Queens, a publication responsible for shedding light on countless instances of political corruption and injustice. He has fought tirelessly in support of many causes at great sacrifice to himself and his health.
Recently, Louis was taken to court by his landlord and WON, but because of unjust housing laws he is now being sued to pay for his landlord's outrageous legal fees. After giving it his best fight, and with help from many other groups and individuals, the Judge is ready to make a final decision and Louis' prospects are looking grim. Without help, Louis may have to leave his home in Jackson Heights and move out of NYC.
With his landlord, the legal system, health issues and other obstacles looking to crush him, we are making an appeal to the community to come through for one of our own. Please, donate what you can and share this fundraiser far and wide. Keeping Louis in Queens means we will have a relentless advocate on our side. Letting his landlord win means we all lose.

Queens Anti-Gentrification Project is pleased to announce the creation of the Queens Neighborhood Defense Fund. Over the last year we have spoken with many neighbors in need of legal assistance.  With increased luxury development in Queens, we are seeing more evictions and more displacement.  Additionally, our immigrant neighbors are threatened by deportation and dealing with police harassment.  The fund will be used primarily to defend people facing these types of crisis situations within our neighborhoods.  As an all-volunteer organization, a small portion of the funds will go towards basic operational costs such as printing and communications.
