Flathead Area Mountain Bikers, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is raising money to build a pump track in Armory Park in Whitefish!! We hope to break ground in Spring/Summer 2017, on the former site of the dirt jumps in Armory Park. You might be asking yourself, "What is a pump track?" A pump track is similar to a scaled down BMX track. The Armory Park Pump Track project will feature rollers, small jumps, and banked turns. The general premise of a pump track is that riders can maintain speed and ride through the track without pedaling, propelling themselves through the track by shifting their body weight, or “pumping”, throughout the track contours. The track connects in a loop, thus enabling a skilled rider to continuously lap the track without stopping.
The issues with the old dirt jumps in Armory Park that we are seeking to address in this rebuild include: (1) the jumps were not built in a manner that is conducive to easy maintenance; (2) while there were a variety of jump sizes, the larger jumps required near constant maintenance; and (3) the most frequent users of the park tend to be children and people who are not comfortable on larger jumps. The Armory Park Pump Track will cater more to these users, emphasizing smaller features that appeal to beginners and younger riders and are easier to maintain.
We thank the City of Whitefish for approving this project. We have applied for grant funding from multiple sources to cover a portion of the cost of construction, but in order to make the pump track a reality, we need to raise the rest of the money from you, the community. No donation is too small. Your donation is tax deductible and you will receive a tax receipt from us. Please share this page with anyone you know who uses Armory Park, rides bikes, or is just interested in helping our town make much needed improvements to a public park and encouraging bike ridership for people of all ages. Ready? Set? Get pumped!!
