Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States in the Caribbean since 1898. On Wednesday September 20, 2017: Hurricane Maria (Category 5) smashed through and cross the center of the island; causing destruction of buildings, electrical posts with power cables, roads, bridges, houses, nature, and causing more than 100 deaths and missing people. This natural disaster is the biggest to ever hit Puerto Rico in over a century. The inhabitants of the island (3.2 U.S citizens) do not have basic necessities as food, water, medicine, nor power electricity. Due to the hurricane, the cellular service in Puerto Rico is really poor making communication very difficult among each other. A little bit more about me: I was born and raised all my life in Puerto Rico. On August 2017, I came to the United States to fulfill my undergraduate studies, leaving all my family and friends back home. Every day goes by and I'm always thinking of them and the people who are suffering without the basic resources they need to survive. I'm worried for my people and my island; and not being there physically, makes me want to help in some other way. That is why I created this fundraising page. 100% of the donations collected will be giving to a local independent, non-partisan and non-profit organization operating directly from San Juan, Puerto Rico: "CONPRMETIDOS con Puerto Rico". Their main objective is focusing on getting the basic necessities (food, water & medicine) to the victims who most need it right now. The people of Puerto Rico have always been present when helping out other states and countries when natural disasters happen, now Puerto Rico needs us. The restoration to normality is a long process but with everyone's help, day by day we can improve and bring joy to the Puerto Ricans. Please donate as much as you want and share this link to your social medias and with friends/families/co-workers. Let us reach our goal and help out Puerto Rico. I promise you that 100% of your donations to the fund will make a difference and be used exclusively to provide long-term relief to the victims of Hurricane María in Puerto Rico. Thank you!
