As a single mom of 6 kids ranging in age from 3 months to 14 years, I was looking forward to a summer full of swimming, hiking, and adventures, intermingled with the sweet sounds of children wailing when someone looked at them sideways or ate the last Oreo. It was going to be magical. Summer had other plans for us. We are transitioning between homes right now due to circumstances beyond our control. While moving our belongings into storage, the transmission on our only car completely died. I've gotten two quotes of a $4700 cost to get the car running again. Without a car, I can't find a job and we can't secure permanent housing until I am employed and generally speaking, employers like employees to have things like transportation, housing, and reliable daycare so said employees can actually come to work. At this point, pretty much everything hinges on the car getting fixed and I just don't have the money to do that. I hate doing the whole crowdfunding thing because it makes me feel like a jerk and I have avoided it for several months, but this car thing has been the straw that broke the camel's back. We desperately need help right now.
