The Story

*** My niece, Abby, was the first sponsor of Omutima to come visit the children in June. She was so loving and caring to all of them and was a true ambassador for everything Omutima represents. We would like to accept gifts to Omutima in lieu of flowers. Please see below the work we are doing. You can donate directly to the WATSAN project via here. Or if you make the donation on this page, I will directly deliver the funds to the WATSAN project at Rumbugu.  ***

Omutima is one word meaning both heart and soul in Rukiga (Chiga), the language of Southwest Uganda. It is here that I met Lilian who introduced me to the children at Rumbugu Primary School. Needless to say these children stole my heart. Omutima started off as a small project to provide the students with much needed shoes and supplies so they could attend school. It has turned into so much more. Connecting kids across the globe and sharing experiences while contributing to the children of Rubugu to better their education and improve their opportunities.
Our newest projects include creating an Educational Resource room on the Rumbugu Primary School campus and we are also working with WATSAN (https://nkkdwatsan-uganda.com/) to provide clean water and sanitation needs to the students of Rumbugu. This is a huge $30,000 project and it will make a critical and much needed difference in these children's lives.

Hi everyone!

I know it has been a while and the children have been busy at school. The children and the whole community of Rumbugu are so grateful for your generosity and support. They have started their own Omutima Project group and have been making crafts to sell at a local market to help raise funds for Omutima. They are very much interested in sustainability of the project which is exactly what we aim for when helping others! We are currently working on 3 new projects:

1. We are raising funds for and working with the local Diocese to finish one of the school buildings with a new tin roof so we can install a water catchment system. This will provide clean, safe drinking water for the children at school, as well as offer them a place to wash their hands for better hygiene. At this time there is zero access to water at the school, so this will make a huge difference in the children's health and their ability to focus and learn better in school!

2. We have been working with teachers in the US to create connections between classes. The children have created crafts which we have sent to a class in West Virginia and I have filmed videos of them in their daily lives to share. The teacher in WV has done the same. Tomorrow we will attempt our first skype meeting so the children can interact with each other. Send good vibes that the internet in our Ugandan village works! :-)

3. In addition teachers, students and parents in the US have been collecting teaching and school supplies to help us stock a brand new Teacher's Resource Room. Currently, the teachers at Rumbugu PS have no teaching materials and once we get the room stocked I will hold a Professional Development training with them to teach them how to use the tools that most of them have never seen or had access to.

So as you can see, there are a lot of exciting things happening here in Uganda at Rumbugu Primary School and we are so thankful that you can be a part of it!

Webare Munonga!  xoxo Rosanne

It was an amazing weekend in Rumbugu distributing all the uniforms, shoes and school supplies to 147 children. Actually it was 152 because we picked up a few siblings who were in great need. We are posting a few photos and videos on the YouCaring site as well as our Facebook page. Check them out here! Also, we will be sending individual messages and emails to those of you who have sponsored specific children. It was wonderful to see how welcoming and grateful the community was. They are also excited to take part and I am excited for our next steps: building a water catchment system at the school (they currently have no access to water) and setting up a teachers resource room at the school (they have ZERO supplies!). Thank you all so much for your participation in and your support of the Omutima Project!

We are humbled and blown away by the love and support from all of you generous souls! We started out with a goal to get first-time shoes for one class of children at Rumbugu Primary School in Uganda. We have now raised enough funds to get 147 children shoes, uniforms and school supplies for the new school term starting in February! In addition, we have had some beautiful souls who have donated extra to allow for us to support and supply some at risk children with much needed medical care and nutritional necessities. Our hearts are overflowing with love and gratitude! We wish you a very happy and safe New Year!
Love,
Rosanne, Lilian and all the children of Rumbugu Primary School
