Childbirth Survival International (CSI
) believes Every Birth Counts
and every pregnant woman deserves respectful, timely, and quality care during pregnancy, childbirth, and 24-48 hours after childbirth. Where pregnancy and childbirth experiences are glamorized and celebrated, in many developing countries it is a tragedy and a silent killer! Everyday an estimated 830 women die and thousands of babies lose their lives for reasons that are preventable and that makes us all accountable.
Lack of basic and necessary medical supplies is among contributing factors to preventable maternal-newborn deaths and disabilities. Since 2014, CSI has distributed 310 childbirth kits in Tanzania and Uganda, saving families from poverty, empowering midwives to provide quality maternal-newborn services, and encouraging pregnant women to give birth a health facility with a skilled birth attendant.
Through CSI's Saving Lives at Birth program, we hope to reach 700 poor pregnant women and their families in three African countries (Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda) by distributing childbirth kits. To learn more: http://childbirthsurvivalinternational.org/saving-lives-at-birth
