The most devastating hurricane in 100 years struck Puerto Rico just a few weeks ago. In nine hours Hurricane Maria caused catastrophic flooding and unprecedented damage across the entire island, including Vieques and Culebra.
Artists are among the most vulnerable communities on the islands: they have lost their homes, their studios, their stored art works, and the most basic tools for survival in a cash-only economy. These dire conditions will be slow to improve, but we can help now. Everyone needs our support to survive and to rebuild.
The Artist Emergency Fund (AEF) established in 1997 by the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC) provides emergency funds to fine artists experiencing a natural disaster, unexpected medical expenses, and other extreme situations. 100% of the funds raised will be given to the AEF, which is managed by the MAC, a 501 (c) 3 organization. Located in the heart of Santurce, a lively hub for the arts in San Juan and founded by artists in 1988, the MAC holds a permanent contemporary art collection and a distinguished track record of exhibitions and programs in their landmark building.
Please join me and Cristin Tierney Gallery, and Roberto Paradise gallery in raising the urgently-needed funds for artists in Puerto Rico. Your generous donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. Give as much as you can.
Life is short, but the Art these Artists make is forever. #PRArtistEmergencyFund
