The Story

The most devastating hurricane in 100 years struck Puerto Rico just a few weeks ago.  In nine hours Hurricane Maria caused catastrophic flooding and unprecedented damage across the entire island, including Vieques and Culebra.

Artists are among the most vulnerable communities on the islands: they have lost their homes, their studios, their stored art works, and the most basic tools for survival in a cash-only economy.  These dire conditions will be slow to improve, but we can help now. Everyone needs our support to survive and to rebuild.

The Artist Emergency Fund (AEF) established in 1997 by the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC) provides emergency funds to fine artists experiencing a natural disaster, unexpected medical expenses, and other extreme situations.  100% of the funds raised will be given to the AEF, which is managed by the MAC, a 501 (c) 3 organization.  Located in the heart of Santurce, a lively hub for the arts in San Juan and founded by artists in 1988, the MAC holds a permanent contemporary art collection and a distinguished track record of exhibitions and programs in their landmark building.

Please join me and Cristin Tierney Gallery, and Roberto Paradise gallery in raising the urgently-needed funds for artists in Puerto Rico. Your generous donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. Give as much as you can.

Life is short, but the Art these Artists make is forever. #PRArtistEmergencyFund

Dear Friends of Puerto Rico,

Give before midnight TONIGHT and let your gift get us past the goal and send a strong message:  Artists and the art they make in Puerto Rico matters.

In a few short hours, we’ll welcome another year.  With every second that goes by and every emergency grant the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in San Juan makes to artists in need, it all makes a difference.

It’s an ongoing investment for our cultural history, for our country, and for this and future generations to have the chance to create again and see irreplaceable art.  The Artist Emergency Fund is the only one of its kind since 1997.

THANK YOU for your incredible support and friendship this year. Let’s end 2017 strong, ready to work hard in the coming year to insure that art and the artists who make it in Puerto Rico can flourish again and can help  weave our communities and country together.

The Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) in New York has announced their first donation to help the artists in Puerto Rico by  giving a generous grant to match funds privately raised to date in further support of the Artist Emergency Fund (AEF) managed by the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Puerto Rico (MAC).

The AEF was established in 1997 by MAC to give direct financial assistance to artists experiencing an emergency.  One hundred percent (100%) of the funds raised are given as cash grants to artists in need on the islands, including Vieques and Culebra.

We thank all the generous donors who have contributed to this urgent and on-going campaign and want to recognize the exemplary gift of the ADAA.
