Hi! We're Alexis and Liz from Canada and Casey from the USA,
PRAMILA NEEDS OUR HELP!
In 2014, Pramila followed her dream and bought a small piece of land, in a village called Nagarkot, to share organic farming practices and the culture of Nepal with guests from around the world.
On April 25th, the earthquake that shattered Nepal destroyed her home and left her, her family, and friend Shanta living first in a greenhouse and now in a tin and bamboo shed. More than anything in the world, what Pramila needs now is our support. We, her previous home-stay guests, are reaching out to you for assistance in raising $10,500 to establish her vision, build a small earthquake-proof home, and enjoy the dignity of earning a living.
As past guests of Pramila's, we kindly request your contribution. We believe that, together, we can raise $10,500 and support the generous vision of this amazing woman. We can make this possible!
For US$10,500, Pramila will be able to purchase materials and hire workers to build a permanent, earthquake-proof, one-level home on her own land, with a kitchen and extra room for guests. Her vision is even bigger - you’ll find the full story below. By raising these funds in the next 30 days, house construction can begin right after the monsoon season ends. All funds raised through this website will be transferred directly to Pramila to manage.
Pramila has hosted almost 100 guests; if each contributes $100, we will reach our goal quickly. Please donate what you can afford and share with your networks. Did you or someone you know stay with Pramila? Consider the depth of this experience and make it possible for Pramila to continue her magic, with all the ripple effects it has.
When we left Nepal and Pramila, we often wondered how we could repay the kindness she offered us and so many others. If you ever thought about how to repay a kindness, now is the time: let's join together and be a part of making Pramila’s dream come true!
As usual, Pramila is already thinking beyond herself and to others, and she wishes you to know this: her house will belong to all the people who contribute their support to this housing project. We will be welcome to stay at this house while visiting Nepal without any costs, so long as we help out with regular household activities (in the kitchen and farm).
ABOUT HOME-STAYS WITH PRAMILA:
Being Pramila's home-stay guest - either at her former apartment in Kathmandu, at her traditional home in the hilltop village of Nagarkot or at the farm in Chitwan - is treat and a privilege. Living with Pramila, amenities are simple but the love is boundless! You feel welcomed into her home and an important part of the day's activities, basking in Pramila's hospitality, hearing her sing beautiful songs and recite poems, feasting on the delicious home-cooked meals that you may have contributed to, learning about tending an organic farm with food plants and animals, feeling like a part of Pramila's family, and laughing, laughing, laughing! She told us her difficult story, but always with a huge smile. In those honest, moving moments, she inspired us to pursue our dreams, never give up, and always focus on the positive. This was one of the most memorable experiences of our travels in Nepal.
A LONG TERM VISION:
Pramila is already planning for her new home to become a training and resource centre for disadvantaged and poor women and girls. Here they will learn empowering skills and knowledge to move forward in their lives. This centre will promote organic, ecological and sustainable farming practices and methods. She also wants to start a seed bank, preserving traditional and indigenous varieties of vegetables, fruits and crops.
You know how much she wants to support herself and do this valuable work. You know she can do it.
We believe we can support her in this. So let's band together and make it possible!
