The goal of the Pittsburgh Rat Lovers Club and Rescueis to promote the well being of rats through education, rescue, and adoption.
The Erie Rescue: We have a Pet Rat Rescue going on in Erie, Pa. involving dozens if not hundreds of Domestic Rats that were let loose & are running freely in a older woman's home inside & outside. The woman was throwing food out daily & allowing the rats to breed without catching them or alerting anyone to assist her. Officials in the area were notified by complaints of neighbors of the large amounts of Domestic rats running rampart for all to clearly see in the very cluttered & disheveled home. This has been going n for some time we have now been informed. Some rats were killed before non kill non profit Organizations were called in to assist. Organizations that are now working together are Rat Nation Shelter of Pittsburgh affiliate of The Pittsburgh Rat Lovers Club & Rescue, The French Creek Animal Shelter in Erie & EARS in Erie.
We use the money for : Gas our rescue is located in a suburb of Pittsburgh, Erie is 2.5 hours away), Food for the ratties , Meds for all the ratties caught: They all need Revolution, Nemex Wormer, & to be put on Doxy ( Its going to take a lot ).
What we have done so far : We are making multiple trips to Erie to transport the rats back to our Rat Nation of Pittsburgh Rescue & sending supplies back n forth. We are sending supplies like totes, carriers, water bottles, food, bedding etc. to The French Creek Animal Shelter in Erie for the rats they are holding for us when they catch them. We are administering a one time dose of Revolution for bugs, a two time dosing of Nemex Wormer, & giving Doxycycline (antibiotic) twice a day every day for two weeks or more to every rat caught with the exception of nursing moms, pregnant moms & baby's. Those three medications items alone are very costly, medical supplies like these & syringes will have to keep being replenshed. We are purchasing a lot of food for the rats. They eat a lot foods such as Cheerios, Old fashioned Oats, Dry Pasta & a good quality Rat Food Block. Also The Pittsburgh Rat Lovers Club & Rescue will be driving & transporting the rats again to homes for adoptions & fosters soon. Money for gas for these trips is greatly needed for transporting that we are in the process of setting up right now. We are all Volunteers & a non profit group.
