Robbie was picked up by Bloomingdale Animal Control on the night of August 25, 2013 after being hit by a car on Ringwood Ave by Father Hayes Dr in Wanaque NJ. He was rushed to the emergency vet where his x-rays revealed 2 fractured hips, the left one quite severe. He spent the night at the emergency vet and incurred a bill of nearly $1,000. He then spent the week hospitalized at the shelters veterinarian who kept him comfortable with pain management and crate rest while we waited and hoped for an owner to come forward and claim him. Instead, he was abandoned and now it is up to NJ CAS to see that he gets the surgery he needs.
Our original quote for surgery for both his hips was $6,500, however we are following up with other orthopedic surgeons to get second opinions and estimates. We are being told that Robbie may be able to have surgery on just his left hip at this point and that his right hip may heal with crate rest and pain management.
Now that Robbie has become the responsibility of the North Jersey Community Animal Shelter, our shelter is committed to helping him. We believe he is a Schnauzer/Border Terrier mix who is under 2 years old. He is a happy and good natured dog despite all that he has been through, and he deserves a chance at a better life. With help from our fellow animal lovers, we hope to raise the money to cover his emergency vet bill, his hospitalization at the shelter vet, his surgery costs, and his neuter and vaccines to get him ready for adoption.
A donation of any amount is deeply appreciated. By working together, those of us who share a common interest in helping animals can achieve incredible things!
Thanks to all of your support, Robbie had his surgery, recieved physical therapy, and was adopted by a vet tech! We wish them both all the best and good luck!
