The Story

Did you know that PURR WV is a sanctuary for cats who are "unadoptable" due to age, illness or disposition?  PURR WV has many amazing cats who reside in the sanctuary and need daily care like medical exams, medicine, food, water, litter, and of course, a comfortable place to live our their years!

Please meet one of PURR WV's sanctuary residents:  Dartanian.  Dartanian was originally adopted through PURR WV but was turned into a high-kill shelter after the owner discovered Dartanian had developed mouth cancer.  Thankfully, all of PURR WV's cat/kittens are microchipped, so the shelter contacted PURR WV to come collect Dartanian.  PURR WV wasted no time in bringing Dartanian to the sanctuary where he receives hospice care.  Dartanian is well cared for, loved and will never be abandoned again.

PURR WV's sanctuary has all sorts of residents: some with terminal cancer, some with chronic skin conditions, some who are just simply considered elderly.  PURR WV is able to provide long-term care for these special animals through support and donations of cat lovers like YOU!

PURR WV thanks you for any donation, no matter how large or small, so that we are able to continue providing loving care for these animals for the rest of their lives.

Another Sanctuary resident at PURR WV is Houdini.

Houdini is a 'she' but the name stuck.  She used to excel at 'getting out' of a room, a cage, or a house, and her humans could not figure out how she did that! Houdini came to PURR from a really bad animal welfare case where she was forced to exist in horrid conditions. When PURR found
her, she jumped on her rescuer's shoulder from the top of the door and never looked back!
Houdini has been living at PURR for about 3 years now, checking up on the other kitties and making sure all is well. She has some back trauma and sometimes her hind legs do not work so well, and this summer, PURR noticed that it was getting harder for her to move around. She now lives in a large clean cage that keeps her safe from getting lost, or hurt. She still gets out into the room to stretch her legs and socialize with the other cats, but it is now supervised to make sure she does not hurt herself. She gets pain medication when necessary, supplements to keep her healthy, and grooming to keep her looking good. And of course, much loving attention from PURR volunteers who stop by and tell her what's going on elsewhere in the sanctuary. Houdini has a forever home now where she is safe and loved and spoiled. As she should be.

It is because of your kindness and generosity that these cats have the quality of life they deserve and long for. PURR is always looking for sponsors to help save a life and give our sanctuary cats the medication, specialized food and ongoing medical care they require. We rely solely on donations in our mission to help cats like these three that would otherwise be abandoned at a high kill shelter or dumped in the streets. Please consider sponsoring one of our cats!
