Penelope is an adorable puppy, who catches everyone eyes anywhere she goes. Her name was given because she is so charming and lovely that I couldn't think of another name that can describe these qualities better than Penelope.
I adopted Penelope about 4 weeks ago and only last week when I took her to the vet to give her the second set of shots the doctor found an abnormal heart beat. She advised me to take her immediately to do an ultra-sound with a vet cardiologist, but after making a research online I read that many puppies grew out of it when they reach an older age, so I totally ignored the doctors' warning, especially because ultra-sounds cost a lot of money and I didn't realize the risks.
Three days later, when I came home from work, I found Penelope all white, coughing, like she was choking or with breathing difficulties. I immediately took her to the best vet team in the world at VCA animal hospital North Hills. She was quickly taken care of and they saved her life.
The X-rays that the doctor requested showed us how severe was her case followed by an ultra-sound with a specialist that confirmed the results. I was already crying in total panic. It is incredible how we get attached to our pets so quickly and iI feel like I have her forever. I could not imagine my life without her anymore, so I did not accept euthanize as an option, but the only other option left was the surgery, which cost about $8000 besides the follow up exams.
I have spent about $2000 in two days of Penelope's hospitalization, X-rays, Ultra-sounds, and that was already over-limit of what I could afford. The doctor was pretty clear with me and told me that if Penelope does not have the surgery done within 2 months she won't last long and I am desperately looking for help.
I have e-mailed a lot of organizations that helps dogs like Penelope with illness and life risks, but the process take too long, and maybe she won't be able to make it until its approved. So a friend recommended me to make a fundraising page for her and share on social medias.
I will appreciate any help you can give towards Penelope's surgery. The truth is that if Penelope does not get the funds that she needs to cover the surgery costs she will die because her case is so serious that she cannot live under medications for too long, but with the surgery Penelope can have a normal life. It's fact that I cannot afford the surgery, I tried to think of all possible ways to have this amount to save her life, but I was not able to get even close to what she needs.
