The Story

Update 5/6/2015

Gracie did well with her dental; however under anesthesia Dr. Shelburne found her jaw was not able to close because her teeth were keeping it from closing. Her muscles are tight and he is hoping they will loosen in time now that her teeth are no longer an obstruction. He is going to recheck her in a month. If her jaw is not functioning properly then he is referring us to a specialized Veterinary Dentist/Orthodontist.

We will keep Gracie’s fundraiser open until her follow up with the Vet.  Thank you for your support and prayers for Gracie, she is one happy bunny now and has been eating well since she came home!

Original Post:

An all to familiar story.
This bunny was being sold at a flea market by a breeder because she was old and could no longer breed, he stated she would be inhumanely killed (by being beat to death with a stick) the following Sunday if not sold.

A kind man saw the bunny and took her home to his family who loves animals, they named her Gracie.  She lived her entire life in a wire bottom cage elevated off the ground outdoors, this was the first time her feet ever touched the ground where she was allowed to walk or play.

Gracie was taken to the Vet, she was diagnosed neglected and malnourished with an upper respiratory infection (snuffles) and her eyes are crusted.  At some point her front leg was broken and never healed properly from lack of care.
Upon examining her teeth, the vet discovered that one tooth is broken off completely and 3 others are crooked and worn down to the point he doesn't know how she has been eating.

Gracie was listless because she was slowly starving to death from not being able to eat properly, nor was she receiving proper nutrition as the breeder only fed the rabbits brick hard cubes of hay.

She is scheduled May 5th, 2015 with Dr. Shelburne for her teeth to be trimmed, if this does not correct the teeth issues Gracie will need to see specialist.

Gracie's recovery may be a long and costly road, please help give her a chance for the life and love she deserves.   No amount is too small, please keep Gracie in your prayers.

Dr. Shelburne does not take direct donations, they will be taken in by Rabbits In Need Inc. and all receipts will be posted here.
