The Mission: What are we doing?
On October 8th, my younger brother, Sam, and I will be traveling to Lima, Peru to film fundraising videos for Peace and Hope International(PHI). PHI is a Christian non-profit organization that confronts various types of violence, oppression, and injustice against vulnerable people and communities in Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia, and is comprised of counselors, ministers, attorneys and other human rights professionals. the organization is unique because it not only rescues victims of injustice and enables them to successfully reenter society, but also fights oppression on a systemic level.
We will be joined by Eric Fisler, from Flagship Interactive Group who will serve as both Executive Producer and on-camera talent. The three of us, along with our security detail and interpreter, will be traveling throughout Peru filming at five different PHI program offices as well as their headquarters in Lima. We will use the footage to create a Promotional Video for PHI (detailing it’s mission and programs) in order to help them raise funds through future marketing efforts. Next, we will film five Program Videos, delving into more detail about their specific operations and needs.
What are these programs?
1. Program to contribute to peace, memory, justice and reconciliation after the armed internal conflict. The Peace and Hope organization was born (1996) in response to the internal armed conflict that affected Peru between 1980-2000.
2. Program to prevent sexual violence and sexual trafficking as well as minister to victims and the children born out of it at the Hovde House for Good Treatment in Huanuco, Peru.
3. Program to affirm the rights of persons with disabilities throughout the country, and particularly deaf children and teens in the San Martin Region (Amazon jungle).
4. Program to defend the rights of indigenous communities and protection of the environment in the Amazon jungle.
5. Program to affirm the rights of Quechua children to learn in their own language and be affirmed in their ethnic identity against a context of systematic discrimination based on their condition of poverty and their ethnicity in Apurimac. (This program is called "Strengthening Intercultural Bilingual Education for Quechua Children and Youth in Apurimac). (Apurimac is one of the poorest regions of Peru)
Throughout this process we will be creating a seven-part Vlog Series to educate viewers on PHI as an organization and the challenges they face in Peru, and allow the production team to share this experience with our audience. These vlogs will be released as a mini-series on YouTube upon our return and could potentially lead to the creation of a longer form documentary about Peace and Hope International and the people they have helped.
My Story: Why are we doing this?
This Easter Sunday, my other brother Charlie nearly lost his life in a horrific motorcycle accident. After his miraculous recovery he told me that in the moments that he lay dying in a pool of his own blood he was not afraid, instead, he said that his thoughts turned to the Lord and he was overwhelmed by a feeling of regret that he hadn’t done more for Him during his life. This resonated deeply with me, and made me act on thoughts I’d been having for months.
In the past year my personal and professional lives were turned upside down, losing my wife, then my business partner, and finally culminating in the near death of my younger brother. All of this led me to seriously reevaluate my priorities, go back to the drawing board, and ask the Lord where I was supposed to go from here.
Three years ago I co-founded Albatross Productions, which is now a full-service international media production company. In the beginning, we specialized in aerial cinematography, but later diversified and have worked creatively with over 30 clients, filming TV ads, music videos, marketing spots, and fundraising pieces. Most notably, I have made two trips to Cameroon, Africa to produce films (watch here) for a small nonprofit there. My work resulted in a significant increase in funds raised for their organization and ever since that experience I have felt led to find a way to make working with charitable organizations more sustainable.
My vision now is to identify worthy faith-based organizations or individuals, arm them with effective visual storytelling, and create engaging content to bring exposure to the people making an impact for the Lord in whatever community they are serving.
Peace and Hope International is just such an organization, and I believe our paths crossing right now has not been a coincidence. They are doing incredible things for the Lord but are severely underfunded and need our help.
After creating fundrasing tools for Peace and Hope International we will use this content to build a following on YouTube and other social media platforms. Over time we can use these platforms to influence, educate, entertain, and encourage an online community passionate about helping our clients spread the love of Christ through their service.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supports the programs of Peace and Hope International in South America through your donation and your prayers. Please also pray for my involvement with this great organization, so that our work can help them reach out to many more supporters, and in turn, enable them to serve many more families and communities who need empowerment and opportunity to be free from all forms of exclusion and marginalization.
