Patsy Kamercia has spent her entire life paying it forward and giving back to others. Now it is our turn to pay if forward and support her fight! Patsy was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic/Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Unclassifiable Disorder (MDS/MPN-UC) this fall. This disease is extremely rare and affects the bone marrow and blood; her bone marrow are making too many white blood cells, and there is no definite cure. She has been tentatively scheduled to receive a Haploidentical bone marrow transplant at the end of January 2017. Her son Tripp, who lives in St. Thomas will be a donor for this transplant. This transplant was scheduled sooner than anticipated and has added additional stress; emotionally and financially. Due to the type of transplant, Patsy will be away for 4-5 months post transplant so the funds raised will help alleviate medical expenses and out-of-pocket expenses that will not be covered by the insurance company during this time (lodging due to relocation, food, daily expenses, travel, etc.)
Patsy is one of a kind and has a personality that can light up a room. She has dedicated over 40 years to coaching field hockey at Haddam-Killingworth High School where she has impacted hundreds of young lives and has created lifelong friendships. Patsy was the first female Athletic Director in the state of Connecticut and at HKHS, where she established an athletic department that has become a part of the culture of the school. Patsy was also a Physical Education teacher at HKHS and a mentor for many students, co-workers and teachers. Patsy has been an extremely successful coach, winning multiple State Championships, Shoreline Conference titles and numerous other coaching accolades including being inducted in the Connecticut Field Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame. She constantly reminds every player, once you join the HKFH Family, you are family for life. Now it's our turn as her extended family to give back and support her through this fight.
Aside from financial support, we are still seeking a perfect match for Patsy for a bone marrow transplant. The Haploidentical Transplant is the current transplant scheduled because t a perfect match has not been found yet. Please consider joining the bone marrow registry. We are in the works with Patsy’s medical team to set up a local Donor Day to try to find the match, in the meantime please visit BeTheMatch for additional information about how to join the registry.
If anyone is able to support and contribute any amount, it will help ease Patsy, Michael, and Tripp's financial burden throughout this difficult time.
Patsy has an extensive network of support; former athletes, HK Alumni, former co-workers, coaches, family members and friends, and we need to spread the word to all of them! If you cannot support financially, please share to spread the word and help get Patsy & Michael the support they need.
Thank you in advance! #PKstrong
