The Story

Poor little Patches came to us with a horrible infection that had entered his brain. He suffered from a seizure that has left him with severe neurological issues. His symptoms are excessive head wobbling when nervous, scared, or excited, and constant clumsiness. He is also deaf and acts disoriented at times. We have not been able to obtain an accurate diagnosis for him. Without a diagnosis, we don't know what more we can do for him. Over the past few months, he has relearned how to walk, drink, eat, use a litter box, and play (in his own special way) with his sister Sammie. Patches has an appointment with a neurologist on the morning of March 27, 2017. We've been given a consultation quote of $130.00. It is anticipated that he will need an MRI. Quote given is $1,800-2,200. His MRI is not within budget for us. We need your help! If this condition can be cured, we need to act fast before we miss a possible window of opportunity. This poor little guy has come so far from death's door. We'd love to see him find a furever home, but we can't do that without an accurate diagnosis. Please help us help Patches. No amount is too small. Every dollar gets us closer to his MRI. If you're not able to donate, please share! Thank you! Patches had his consultation with neurologist, Dr Levine, on Monday. We were able to rule out several conditions based on symptoms and physical exam/testing. The vet has determined it is likely one of a few conditions. The most likely diagnosis is Feline Bilateral Vestibular Disorder. In order to confirm this diagnosis, Patches will need an MRI. Depending on what they see during the scan, they may also need to do a spinal tap. We've been told to expect both procedures to be performed on that day (can't do it until we raise the funds). If it's Feline Bilateral Vestibular Disorder, an MRI is important because it should show the vet which area is causing his problems - structures within his brain vs structures within his ears. Without the MRI, we won't know how to treat him or what to expect in the future. At the end of his exam, we were given an estimate for MRI with spinal tap. The anticipated total for his next visit is $2,282.56. We've added a copy of this estimate to the fundraiser photos. Thanks to those of you who have already donated, we've been able to rule out toxoplasmosis ($130) and have had his neurological consult ($130). Not including fees collected by YouCaring, the total amount of the fundraiser has been increased to $2,500. If you have the ability to help us help Patches, please donate. Every $5 donation gets us that much closer to being able to schedule his appointment. If you're not able to help financially, please share for him. He's such a loving kitten. He deserves to receive the best care possible. Please help us do that for him. Thank you!
