OCO, or OUR Community Organization in Five Points, has a dream to help grow OUR community by putting OUR boots on the ground and hands in the dirt this Spring and Summer!
KCDC has loaned us the land. Community Design Center volunteered the plans. The City of Knoxville is donating the mulch. St. Lukes Episcopal's minister is loaning the heavy equipment (bobcat, etc.) and his landscaping skills... and we have several manpower volunteers who will be coming out for the first Day In The Dirt on May 20th, but we need the basics to start the garden beds.
- Landscaping timber
- rebar to secure beds
- Small troughs for strawberry patches
- 10 x 10 Popup canopy tent for reading and learning days with youth. Tent will also be used for tabling at local events and summer game/reading days with the youth in the square at Walter P Taylor homes.
- 2-3 benches with mountable hardware*
*We’ll get as many as we can raise money for. These aren’t the first priority!
If enough funds are raised, we are also hoping to acquire a tent/cover for reading, game, and learning days with the youth this summer! Donations of perennial flowers and used benches that can be refurbished would be greatly appreciated as well! Please contact me directly if you have anything that can be picked up in donation!
No one can do everything… but imagine if everyone did something. We’re reminded of this every day as we slowly continue to engage and plan the future of OCO and OUR Urban Garden. One. Day. At. A. Time.
