On February 4th at 3AM, I awoke to see my studio, that was recently completed, on fire. The fire grew rapidly from a ten foot flame, to consuming the entire building within fifteen minutes. Although the Philadelphia fire department arrived quickly, they could not put it out until early the next morning. Within a 1/2 hour, my paintings, drawings, sculpture, tools, kayak, motorcycle, car and studio were completely destroyed. The fire melted anything aluminum and the only remaining usable item is an iron anvil and an iron woodstove (with unburned wood within it). It is still unknown what caused the fire, although it was most likely, electrical. Unfortunately my insurance coverage did not cover the studio and contents. Friends are helping with the cleanup of the remaining debris.
I want to rebuild the studio this year, I loved having a studio that was mine, close to home but far enough away to take me into a different realm quickly. I have rented studios for years and my dream has always been to have a devoted structure of my own to create within. I am asking for donations to help pay for the cost of the building materials, concrete pad, plans, licenses and some basic tools. Please help me if you can help to make my new studio, resurrected and improved, in whatever donation amount you can afford.
I lost many tools, large and small. I will be creating a list of those items and if you have anything to donate to replace brushes, wrenches, screwdrivers, jigsaw, drill press, chop saw, grinders, belt sanders, stationary sander, table saw, bench grinder, bandsaw, pliers, paint, ink, easels, sculpture tools, paper, large rulers, two sets of large metal flat files, papermaking supplies, etc. it would help me rebuild my studio and ability to work that much faster.
Thank you and much love!
