Courage. Passion. A Deaf woman. Brenda Lussier has a dream. To conquer Lake Ontario. Raise $50,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
This will be Brenda's third attempt to swim across Lake Ontario this upcoming August 11 - 14, 2017. She needs a minimum of $7,000 to cover all the expenses for this swim, including boat rental (one-two large boat and two-three zodiacs), Coast Guard fees, fuel expenses, and many incidental expenses. The ultimate goal is $50,000 with the proceeds going to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
A life-long swimmer, Brenda has competing all her life. Her high school coach told her that she has the gift of marathon swimming. This helped form the dream to conquer Lake Ontario. In the summer of 2009, she attempted a swim across Lake Ontario only to have her quest thwarted by extremely bad weather and 8 foot (2 meters) waves.
Brenda would not give up. She kept on training and swam across Lake Erie in July of 2015, and became the first Deaf to ever swim across any of the Great Lakes. She then attempted to cross Lake Ontario for the second time in August of 2015 and came 4.9 km short of finishing the swim, due to battling strong currents from the Toronto Harbor for more than seven hours.
The third attempt to cross Lake Ontario will be August 11-14, 2017. Alternate date: August 18-21, 2017.
