On September 19 I leave for Kingston Jamaica for 6 months. I will be working with Jamaican colleageues, living with co-volunteers, sharing my skills, growing through experiences that I can't even imagine from my current vantage point in Canada.
I am volunteering via CUSO International with a Jamaican charity, where I will share my communications & business marketing skills to help strengthen the charitable sector in that country.
While CUSO is great about taking care of their volunteers' basic financial needs, there are expenses I will have to meet with which I'd truly appreciate your help. Some of these expenses include:
- pre-departure assesment & training costs
- visa application expenses
- dental repairs (CUSO's health screening process requires any outstanding dental work to be completed before departure)
- first month's expenses (CUSO pays for housing & an in-country living allowance, but it can take up to a month to receive the first payment)
- a first-aid kit
I am under no delusions that it this new kind of life will be easy. That's okay - my dream isn’t of an easy life, it is of a difference-making life of adventure.
Every dollar, but even more so every note of encouragement, and *fingers crossed* everyone who visits me in Kingston is a blessing. Thanks for considering if you can help.
