The Story

As a young author, it's incredibly difficult to find someone who will publish a book, especially since I've never been published before! After looking at many different options, self-publishing seemed to be the most reasonable way to see my book in print. However, it is not without cost. Through self-publishing with WestBow Press, my book will be sold in various online retailers like Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Self-publishing is a great way to get started as an author and I dream that one day I will be a respected author. My book, For I Know the Plans, is the story of seventeen year old Chrissy whose life is turned upside down. Through a series of events, she is sent to Uganda for six weeks during the summer. Her story is one of growth in Christ that mirror experiences in my own life. Writing this book has been one of the most rewarding journeys of my life, I would love if you could join me in my dream of seeing this book in print!

Behind the Pages of "For I Know the Plans" part 3(of 3)

Summer of 2013 was approaching quickly and an amazing opportunity arised.

God had placed in front of me the chance to travel to Uganda.

Not only to fufill my heart and travel SO close to where my sweet adopted sister is from, but to go with my dad and best friend.

We departed in June of 2013 and the flight was long.

We arrived to an absolutely beautiful country and were welcomed by the awesome Sole Hope team.

This trip was life changing. I was able to meet the beautiful people of Uganda and have some incredible opportunities along the way.

We got to rope swing into the Nile- the Nile River that Moses turned into blood

I got to visit several orphanages, loving on children that may not have been loved that day.

I was able to worship God alongside missionaries, Ugandan people and other American teams.

So, after Uganda I knew this book needed to be changed. It needed to mirror my time in Uganda.

I rewrote- again.

This time, it was finished.

And I knew it was finished.

This manuscript that I finished in August is the one I present to you today to publish.

I'm so very proud of what I've accomplised, because in all reality, how many 16 year olds can say they've written a book?

The Lord has walked with me every step of this journey and quite honestly, it's been one of the most beautiful things I've done.

Most of all, I cannot wait for it to be in print so you can read it! I hope that this book will change people's hearts about orphans and the oppressed in this world. I hope that it shows people that Jesus is really all that you need, and that He really is in control.

Because that's the beauty of not only this book, but in all of life- He is in control, and no matter what happens, He will receive glory for it.

That's the story of my book. It's one of grace and beauty and most of all God's love for me- for all of us.

Thank you for your support- I can't wait to see all that God has in store!

Behind the Pages of "For I Know the Plans" Part 2(of 3)

The book writing had begun. It was spring of my freshman year in high school, and things were going pretty well. Seventy pages had been written and I was very proud of all that I'd accomplished.

In May of 2012, I finished the very first rough draft of my very first book.

Things, in the writing world, began to slow down as summer came along.

During the summer, I edited my book from front to back cover.

And then something completely unexpected happened, something that turned my life upside down over and over again.

My spiritual mentour, adopted big sister, and one of my best friends, Paige, passed away. No one knows why- we only know that she is thought of every day. We know she continues to impact people for the Kingdom.

I questioned God, I questioned why this happened.

And anything that was going on with my book froze for a long time. School was a challenge each and every day.

Eventually, I realized life had to go on, that I had to choose to find joy.

I began seeking my Jesus again. He has never refreshed me more than in those hard days of missing her.

He began to reveal to me just how much this had changed me and deepened my love and need for Him.

He also showed me how much this could change my book.

So- I rewrote it. I added one of my favorite characters, James. I changed the plot line, I moved things around. Slowly but surely this was happening.

By the end of my sophomore year, I thought it was finished.

This time, I knew better than to say, "I'm done."

Because I still had summer of 2013.
