**UPDATE: I have been at the Casa for about 3 weeks now, and words cannot express the depth of this experience...as expected, my plate is overflowing with many to-do's, fires to put out, and much to learn. The reality of this being more than a 3 month project has set in, so the need for support has become even more clear. We have been able to make a lot of progress already, but there is still much work to be done. Every day I am learning and growing so much...I am currently focused on seeking new housing, re-staffing, establishing more self-sustainable systems, creating partnerships and alliances with other local organizations, and managing the endless day to day tasks involved in raising 23 kids, 8+ staff and visitors and volunteers from all over the world. This is more than a full time job; I am actually doing about 3-4 people's job right now :-) However, in the midst of the intensity, I am feeling very connected, inspired and right where I need to be. The kids are amazing, and I am meeting wonderful contacts and connections who are all showing up to support in unique and important ways...So much is still up in the air, and many things happening all at once, but I know that in order to stay through the end of August, I will need to raise at least another $1000. I come home for the month of September and will be working on figuring out how to fund my return from end of September through most likely the end of the year. This page will be open for only 6 more days - so your support would be SO very appreciated, and put to very good use!! Again, please make sure to check the Casa De Milagros Peru Facebook Page where I am sharing all of our updates and adventures! :-) Con Mucho Amor, ~Claudia
**UPDATE: Please read the latest update from US Board President, John Munn re: our efforts to Save Casa and how you can help. http://casademilagrosperu.org/peru-board-appeal-for-casa-de-milagros/
I will now be in the role of interim Director, so my job will be bigger and your support more valuable than ever! I have been overwhelmed by the little and big ways in which so many of you have wanted to help. We have recently had a generous donor step forward to support with my airfare, and another donating 2 laptops! That means we only need to raise around $4,000 to be able to purchase the remaining equipment and support some of my expenses while in Peru. Thank you so much for anything you can give, and please keep sharing!!
The purpose of Casa De Milagros is to nourish the mind, body and spirit of orphaned children in Peru and instill in them a sense of self-esteem and self-worth. I have been involved with Casa De Milagros for many years, and it is very close to my heart. Casa has been through a couple of years of transition after the passing of its founder, Mama Kia, and is currently facing major uncertainty, having recently lost their leadership team, and primary source of financial support. Casa has approximately 3 months of funding left. There is an immediate need to help rebuild the current infrastructure, make it more sustainable, and raise funds to support it ongoing.
I have been asked to help reorganize and rebuild Casa so it can be a healthy loving home for years to come and continue to help nourish and love children in need. I am currently working with the Casa team from the U.S., and will be leaving to go live and work at Casa for at least 3 months, and potentially longer. There is a lot of work to do! I will be mainly focused on Communications & PR: raising awareness and financial support through the web, social media, and various Non Profit networks. I am also tasked with sourcing and hiring qualified permanent directors and staff, develop a generative work-volunteer program, support the day to day management and running of the house, and of course provide love and support to each and everyone of the kids! I also plan to start a Web Communications & Design training program to teach the children web and graphic design skills, with the hopes that they can then own and manage the Casa website and social media platforms, and also develop invaluable skills for self sufficiency.
I am creating this fundraiser, because I do not wish to put a burden on the remaining Casa funds. I need to be able to support and sustain my time there, since I will be taking considerable time and energy away from my consulting business and soul source of income. My hope is to raise enough funds to be able to support Casa as much as I am needed, and to be able to purchase the supplies required to help create a Web Communications & Design training program (2-3 used laptops, software, computer equipment, digital camera/video camera, etc.)
I hope you will help with any amount you can. If you would prefer to donate goods or any of the technology items mentioned above, please contact me! [email protected]
I thank you in advance for your love and support - and will continue to keep you posted as things develop!! Warm hugs... ~Claudia
