Yordy Cancino is an undocumented Gay-Straight Alliance Leader from Los Angeles. He worked hard to create a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ youth. He graduated as saludictorian of his class but unfortunately did not have the information or resources neccessary to attend college, and was also uneligble to work. Out of frustration, Yordy attempted to seek asylum only to have his request denied, in addition to being detained by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Yordy has been in detetion for a few months now and has lived in fear of being deported to a country where he faces violence.
GSAs and GSA Network alumni accross the country united to help our own. Through the collective efforts of everyone involved we delivered a petiton of over 3,300 signatures to ICE, the White House, and various Congressmembers calling for the release of Yordy and other LGBTQ youth. Our petition was also presented in one of Yordy hearings. Our social media campaign, calls, signatures and protest rallies made a difference.
Yordy's credible fear request has been granted. He needs our help to cover the cost of bail at $7500 (plus fees). PLEASE DONATE AND SHARE. Lets bring Yordy home. #GSAs4Justice
