Since 2014, our team of osteopaths have been going to Haiti to provide Osteopathic care and education at the Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS).
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy which emphasizes the treatment of functional disorders through hands-on manipulations of the body (musculoskeletal, neuro-vascular, digestive, the cardio-pulmonary system, etc…).
Why the HAS?
Our main purpose is to transmit our osteopathic approach to Haitian people in order to create skilled therapists and in the long run, future teachers. 98% of HAS employees are Haitians.
Why in Haiti?
Due to the complicated economic context, having a practice based exclusively on manual therapy alone is an interesting asset for a hospital.
Our mission is built on a “win-win-win” project:
- A win for the patients of the Hospital and its dispensaries.
- A win for the paramedical and medical staff that may benefit from osteopathic education.
- A win for the osteopathic practice in the Hospital.
Encouraged by the success of previous years, the HAS has requested that for 2018 we:
- Increase the number of patients treated.
- Double the number of educational hours for the physiotherapists and paramedical staff.
- Build an osteopathic course especially made for physicians.
This campaign is supported only through our volunteers. To achieve our goals and honour our commitments to the HAS, we need you! We ask for your positive energy and your generosity. However, if you are not able to donate you can still spread the word and raise awareness in your communities to help us.
All the money gathered will serve to buy pedagogical materials and paramedical supplies for external medicine. We will also use it to perpetuate our action and prepare the next campaigns.
A big thank you from all the team for helping us with this exciting humane project!
We will keep all the donors posted via social media during our stay from February – March 2018.
