Options FoodLab is a project that started just over two years ago as an experiment
. The idea was to allow people with cooking skills that were coming from vulnerable groups, to take control of their own futures rather than endlessly waiting for the state or NGOs to come to their rescue, which wasn't forthcoming
We started by doing PopUp dinners
where diverse teams of people would work together to create unique events, but what we found went much deeper. By working together in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, people were able to exceed all expectations
and really impress the crowds of people with their food. And the crowds kept getting bigger.
Two years later, we have a space where we work from, we have all the gear necessary to organize and deliver serious events on a professional level. We have a steady stream of clients and our chefs are earning a decent living
from the work we do.
Until now, we have never asked for money. Our approach was to set aside a little profit from each event to buy new equipment
, and the rest went towards the chefs salaries. That is how we got to the point we are at now.
- We now have wine glasses
- Numerous pots and pans
- An industrial stove
- Chef's knives
- We even have a kitchen..
- We need many things, but the most urgent purchase we need to make is to buy a catering van.
Currently, every time we do an event, we rent a van. This is not only unsustainable, and it is cutting into the chefs' profits. The rental fees are adding up, just this month we spent €700 on van rentals
What we are looking to do is to purchase a used catering van like the one pictured above. They can be found second-hand for under €5000. With a van like this we could increase productivity, raise our workflow, thereby hiring more chefs to do more events. Please help Options FoodLab raise the funds to buy our own van!
