About the project
Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) is an international creative problem-solving program that engages students in their learning by allowing their knowledge and ideas to come to life in an exciting, productive environment. Participants build self-confidence, develop life skills, create new friendships, and are able to recognize and explore their true potential. OotM proves that students can have fun while they learn. In Moldova, the program has been implemented since 1997, being brought by Peace Corp Volunteers. The program is offering Moldovan school students space to develop communication, problem solving, team-working skills. Now, the program is implemented on a volunteer bases by the Creative Development Association (CDA). Each year, our country is represented by the most creative young Moldovans in different European countries, at Eurofest, and in the USA. Within the program were educated hundreds of Moldovan children that are now successful and open minded professionals.
Through creativity and problem-solving using imagination and science, children learn skills that provide them with the ability to solve big and small problems throughout their lives. They are encouraged to think outside the box, to express freely their ideas and suggestions, and to have a divergent and critical thinking.
Yearly, students from different regions of Moldova are preparing, together with their teams, a solution for a “long-term problem”, in order to present it in front of the public and in front of judges at the National Competition. The teams work hard during the year to create their own costumes made of recycling materials, and their decorations that put an emphasis on their scenery.
The National Competition is also the space where the most creative teams are selected to represent Moldova to the Eurofest - European tournament.
The event represents an explosion of creativity joy and fun that gathers more than 200 people, the Odyssey of the Mind Moldova Family in one place for one purpose - to celebrate the generation of bright young people. Find more about Odyssey of the Mind Moldova on
What we want to achieve with this fundraiser?
CDA, as the implementing association, hosts the program on voluntary bases, having till recent times, a small financial support that helped us to cover the logistical expenses while running the program. Unfortunately, these funds are no longer available and now we have to fundraise. So, we decided to set an online crowdfunding campaign in order to make the National Competition possible this year.
The Odyssey of the Mind Moldova National Competition 2018 will take place on the 10th of March in Chișinău. The Competition starts in the morning and ends in the evening and includes lots of logistics for 200 people: lunch for volunteer staff during events, refreshments, handouts, T-shirts, stationary and also awards for teams. Creative Development Association is paying to an annual license fee that gives the right to implement the program in Moldova, by using the problems and the program guide.
In 2020, Moldova will organize the European Competition, inviting teams from 11 different countries, it is really important for the CDA team to attend the Eurofest this year in order to see how our colleagues from Germany are handling such a big event.
Donating for this campaign, you will help us also build on the present and on future of the Program in Moldova.
Creative Development Association provides assistance to the American and European Alumni community to implement their ideas in the Moldovan communities, spread experience acquired during the exchanges. CDA promotes youth, volunteering, social cohesion and active citizenship, human rights, educational, academic and cultural activities at local and national level in Moldova.
